May 2026 Meetup: The Michael Movie at the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema in Arlington VA. The movie was really good & entertaining. It showed the young gentle genius turned peculiar king of pop icon longing for his missing childhood, social connection & individual freedom.

We had a special visit from Andrea Smedley’s superstar grandson Josiah who dressed & danced

February 2026: Despite rescheduling events due to ice and snow from a few weeks ago, a few brave souls said a prayer for good weather and a fun day!

The young adults hit the snow tubes & the chaperones hit the table in the lodge. We beat the rain. One participant never been wanted to celebrate his new position as a paraprofessional and had a ball!

We finished up at Yard House💜 It’s never about how many it’s who wants to go then we roll out. Literally, I rolled out tehehe!

This global day of generosity is a time to volunteer, donate, and support meaningful community missions.

Please consider Mind Expansion Community Services, Inc. & HIP Kids (a 501c3 nonprofit) in your Giving Tuesday contributions. Our mission is to bridge the gap between differently-abled and typical youth through medical awareness, safe social support, and community service.

For over 10 years, we’ve partnered with the Maryland National Parks & Planning Commission, received the 2018 MLK Jr. Community Service Award from Johns Hopkins, and continue to provide financial, medical, and social support to our participants. Each year we adopt a school and help support individuals experiencing homelessness.

Join us in celebrating our Co-Founder Dr. Trenton Gilstrap, who earned his PhD in Biomedical Engineering in 2024 and continues to inspire others as a differently-abled leader and award-winning advocate.
