BOE KNOWS. 😎🐾
Boe knows play.
Boe knows kids.
Boe knows dogs.
Boe knows rest days.
Boe knows loyalty.
And Boe knows he likes to herd…cats. 😬

At 6 years old, this handsome cattle dog is potty trained, crate trained, smart, playful, kid friendly, dog friendly, and ready to be somebody’s loyal sidekick.
He can keep up when it’s time for an adventure, then take his recovery program VERY seriously afterward.

What Boe doesn’t know?
Why he’s still waiting for a family of his own. ❤️

So maybe the question isn’t, “What does Boe know?”
It’s…DO YOU KNOW SOMEONE WHO NEEDS TO KNOW BOE?

🚨 PLEASE STOP USING RAT POISON. 🚨
As temperatures drop, rodents start looking for warm places to hide — which means more poison starts getting put out.

The problem? Poison doesn’t always stay where you put it.

A mouse or rat can eat bait, leave the property, and end up in someone else’s yard. Then a dog, cat, owl, hawk, or other animal eats it.

Pets can also be exposed by getting into bait directly or investigating contaminated areas, including rodent carcasses, vomit, or droppings.

Rodenticide poisoning can be horrific — internal bleeding, seizures, kidney failure, neurological damage, collapse, and death.

Sometimes symptoms don’t appear for DAYS.

Please remember: Just because YOU don’t use rat poison does not mean your pets are safe.
Your neighbor might.
Your landlord might.
A nearby business might.
A family member might.

And that poisoned mouse can still end up in your yard.

PLEASE talk to your friends, family, neighbors, and anyone around your pets about safer rodent-control options.

Rat poison doesn’t always stop with the rat. ❤️🐾

Rescue takes a village. ❤️ One of our rescue partners just across the border in South Dakota reached out about a few dogs who have been waiting far too long with very little interest. This is exactly why rescue partnerships matter.

Rescue shouldn’t be about organizations working in separate bubbles. It should be about sharing resources, sharing reach, and stepping in for one another when a dog just needs a different opportunity.

Sometimes there is absolutely nothing wrong with the dog. They’ve simply been seen by the same audience for too long. A new foster home, new photos, a new community, and a fresh set of eyes can completely change their story.

We would love to bring Sweetie, Ryder, Austin, Saint, Hazel, and Velvet into NLR and give them that fresh start — but we need foster or foster-to-adopt families to make it possible.

This is what rescue is supposed to look like: working together so more dogs get a chance. 🐾❤️

📚 LISTEN UP, STUDENTS. I have a homework assignment for you.
Your task? Help me find a family. Preferably immediately. There may be extra credit involved.

See, I’m getting a little stressed in my current foster home. There are a lot of dogs here, and while I love humans with my whole giant pittie heart… other dogs? Ehhh. I’d really rather be your one and only.

You know what happens when a pittie gets stressed? Our skin gets dramatic. Mine has decided to throw a full-blown itchy little tantrum, so I’m ready for a quieter place where I can relax, sunbathe, and receive the amount of attention I clearly deserve.

I know, I know. I’m not exactly your textbook dog.
🎓 I’m a BIG boy.
🎓 I want to be your only dog...well animal actually
🎓 I absolutely LOVE humans.
🎓 Sunbathing is basically my major.
🎓 Personal space is not part of my curriculum.

Seriously. If I could physically crawl inside your skin and become you for Halloween, I would.
And yes, I’m drooly. Very drooly. You could say I’m literally salivating at the thought of finding my forever home.

Pumpkin spice latte? Nah.
🎃 Pumpkin Spice CHARLAAAAAAAAAY.

Your homework is due ASAP: adopt me, share me, or send me to someone who needs one giant, ridiculous, human-obsessed meatball in their life.

Wapi found himself as a stray in a small city pound — the kind of pound where dogs without collars may have only 24 hours to be reclaimed. Thankfully, Wapi was wearing a collar, which gave him 72 hours.

But Wapi had been there before. This time, his owner decided he wasn’t coming back for him.

That’s when one of our reservation partners stepped in and made sure this happy, goofy boy got another chance. His name, Wapi, means “Lucky” in Lakota — and we can’t think of a more fitting name. 🥹

At just 8 months old, Wapi is your classic flouncy, bouncy, ready-for-anything Lab mix. He is happy to be here, happy to meet people, and pretty much happy about life in general.

He’s good with other dogs and kids and is still working on his puppy manners, but he’s well on his way. Wapi just needs a family willing to keep teaching him, loving him, and showing him what life as a cherished family dog is supposed to look like.

He got lucky once when someone stepped in to save him. Now he’s hoping to get lucky one more time — with a family of his own. 💙

🎶 “Can we skip to the good part?” 🎶
That’s the beauty of adopting a senior. 💛

Skip the puppy teeth.
Skip the potty training.
Skip the chaos.
Go straight to the snuggles.

Mayberry is a 6-year-old Labrador/Hound mix who loves walks, fetch, butt scratches, sunshine, and being wherever her people are.

She’s dog-friendly, but prefers calm companions over rowdy play. She’s also a sensitive girl who does best in a peaceful home.

Apparently… she’s not a fan of swearing. 😂 Her foster learned this during a heated football game when a few colorful words had Mayberry cowering. So she’d appreciate a home with gentle voices — or at least a family willing to keep game-day language PG and quieter. 🤫

Senior dogs don’t need to grow into being your best friend.
They’re ready to be one.

Mayberry is ready for the good part: going home. 💛🐾

A MASSIVE thank you to Big Canyon Pet Food for showing up for Northern Lakes Rescue in such a huge way. ❤️🐾

Today, we received TWO PALLETS of donated dog food — and we were honestly overwhelmed with gratitude.

As a 100% volunteer, foster-based rescue, food is one of those constant expenses that adds up quickly.

A donation like this means we can stretch our dollars further toward vetting, emergency care, heartworm treatment, spay/neuter, and helping the next dog who needs us.

Big Canyon didn’t just donate food today. They helped feed dozens of dogs in foster homes and gave our rescue a little more breathing room to keep saying YES.

Please help us give them the recognition they deserve by sharing this post, liking their page, and thanking them in the comments!

We are so incredibly grateful. Thank you, Big Canyon. ❤️

Meet Possum — who is, quite frankly, terrible at being a possum.

Instead of playing dead, this 12-week-old, 12-pound baby prefers to bounce around like a tiny kangaroo. Big ears, big hops, BIG puppy energy.

Possum loves other dogs, zoomies, exploring, and investigating cows and horses like she’s somehow their supervisor. 🐮🐴 She’s still working on potty training and puppy manners, but she’s learning!

She had a rough start in life, but now she’s safe, loved, well-fed, and making up for lost time. ❤️

The only time Possum actually lives up to her name? When she finally runs out of steam. Then she flops over, snuggles in, and becomes the sweetest little cuddle bug.

Looking for a pocket-sized kangaroo disguised as a puppy? Possum is ready. 🦘🐾
