🎣🐾 A Day of New Experiences and Meaningful Conversations 🐾🎣
Today, one of our clients experienced something for the very first time—fishing! While learning how to bait a hook, cast a line, and patiently wait for a catch, we explored an important topic: coping skills.
Fishing provides more than just the excitement of catching a fish. It encourages patience, mindfulness, emotional regulation, and being present in the moment. As we sat by the water, we talked about the coping mechanisms the client currently uses, what works well, and healthy new strategies they can add to their toolbox when life feels overwhelming.
After our fishing adventure, we continued the day with another therapeutic experience by visiting the Warren County Humane Society. Spending time with the cats, horses, and donkeys provided opportunities to practice empathy, build connections, reduce stress, and experience the calming effects that animals can have on our mental health.
At Hokey’s Healing, we believe that healing and growth often happen outside of an office. Through evidence-based mentoring, animal interactions, and community experiences, youth can develop confidence, resilience, and lifelong coping skills while having fun and creating positive memories.
Sometimes the best conversations happen with a fishing pole in hand and animals nearby. ❤️
