If you are interested in Railway Post Office car detailing, catcher pouches, or track-side mail cranes, you are invited to register for this clinic. Prototype information is also included, so although the focus is modeling, there will be substantial discussion about equipment.

Owney Day Returns To Danbury Railway Museum

A scruffy four-legged railroad legend will be the star attraction at the Danbury Railway Museum, as the museum celebrates Owney, the unofficial mascot of the U.S. Railway Mail Service. The special event, according to a Facebook post from the Danbury Railway Museum, takes place Saturday, July 11, and features the museum's annual activation of its historic Railway Post Office Car, giving visitors a chance to experience a unique piece of railroad and postal history. Admission includes a train ride during which Owney's story is read onboard.

Visitors will also receive a commemorative postcard, postage, and a special one-day pictorial postmark, creating a keepsake available only during the event, per the Facebook post. After the tour, guests can stop by the museum's refreshment stand for a complimentary "Owney Dog," a bag of chips, and a drink, all included with admission.

Owney became a well-known figure in American railroad history after serving as the unofficial mascot of the U.S. Railway Mail Service, traveling with railway mail clerks aboard Railway Post Office cars and becoming a favorite among postal workers. For railroad enthusiasts, history buffs, families, and dog lovers alike, Saturday's celebration offers a chance to honor one of the most unusual mascots in American transportation history while enjoying a train ride and a rare look inside a working Railway Post Office Car.
