Faustman Lab Researching a cure for type 1 diabetes.

07/16/2026

Last month we shared the results of the Phase II clinical trial. We are excited to introduce you to some of the people who made the trial possible! Meet Mary, a type 1 diabetic school teacher with big plans for the Summer. Mary will talk about her HbA1c, time in range and insulin use. Like everyone treated in the trial Mary recieved a total of six BCG injections over five years and was followed for a total of eight years. Join Mary and our very own Nurse Daniela as they discuss how BCG changed her T1D experience.

Congratulations to my MGH Neurology colleagues on publication of our BCG Alzheimer's study in Nature Communication Medicine. Prior studies have linked BCG to lower Alzheimer’s Disease (AD) or dementia as well as demonstrate favorable changes in AD related proteins. This shows that BCG can reprogram immune responses detectable in the central nervous system and demonstrate a possible biological bridge between the prior clinical observations and Alzheimer’s biology. Stay tuned. More trials coming.

New research led by Mass General Brigham investigators suggests that the Bacillus Calmette-Guérin (BCG) vaccine — which is delivered through the skin to prevent tuberculosis — may remodel the human brain’s immune environment, offering a potential biological explanation for p...
