Johnson County Rangers

Johnson County Rangers The Johnson County Rangers are a group of western action shooters and an official posse of NCOWS.

We are a group of enthusiasts who love the history of the old American west (1865-1899 time period) and especially love shooting the old west six-shooters, lever action rifles, and shotguns of the period. In addition to our regular shooting matches, we occasionally hold long range matches shooting the big bore buffalo guns of the era. We strive for historic authenticity which is often quite differ

ent from the Hollywood cowboy. Our shooting matches are timed and scored but most importantly we get together to have some safe fun and tend not to take the scores too seriously. This IS NOT a quick draw competition and we do not allow modified "race guns". We typically shoot at steel targets with pistol and shotgun targets at about 20 yards and rifle targets at about 45 yards distance.

Unfortunately, I have no good news to share. The road to the range has not been repaired yet, and remains impassable. The county plans to repair the road when materials weather permit, but there is no indication of when this will happen. The June NCOWS match is cancelled.

The road to the range has not been repaired and more rain is forecast from tonight, thru the weekend. The NCOWS match for May 31 is cancelled.

JCR had scheduled a special fifth-Saturday shoot for next Saturday, May 31. Unfortunately, as of today the road to the range remains dangerous and impassible due to a portion of the road and hillside breaking off and sliding toward the creek just past the entry gate. If the road is repaired this week I will post info about the match and email members. Otherwise, the match will be cancelled.

Nature has not been kind to JCR this spring. We have gotten word that the road to the range has already been damaged and with the severe weather forecast for later this evening, we are cancelling the NCOWS match for tomorrow, May 17.

We are checking on road conditions to the range. The area has already been hit with torrential rain this morning, with severe weather forecast for this evening. Someone is driving out to check current road conditions and we will post as soon as we know more.

The recent heavy storms have made the range road impassable. We are monitoring the situation, but as of now we are cancelling the April NCOWS match that was scheduled for next Saturday.

Received word that the second, larger, creek crossing is rough for low-clearance cars and vehicles. Plan on parking above the range near the buildings.
