Johnson County Rangers The Johnson County Rangers are a group of western action shooters and an official posse of NCOWS.

We are a group of enthusiasts who love the history of the old American west (1865-1899 time period) and especially love shooting the old west six-shooters, lever action ri**es, and sh****ns of the period. In addition to our regular shooting matches, we occasionally hold long range matches shooting the big bore buffalo guns of the era. We strive for historic authenticity which is often quite different from the Hollywood cowboy. Our shooting matches are timed and scored but most importantly we get together to have some safe fun and tend not to take the scores too seriously. This IS NOT a quick draw competition and we do not allow modified "race guns". We typically shoot at steel targets with pistol and sh***un targets at about 20 yards and r***e targets at about 45 yards distance.

Reminder: the final match of 2026, potluck, and membership meeting is tomorrow.

We will have the forms to renew your NCOWS membership for next year. Don't forget your checkbooks or cash, if you want to renew tomorrow. We will know the amounts due once we vote on the JCR dues for next year.

Just a reminder that our last match of 2026 as well as our annual business meeting and potluck is next Saturday. On the business menu will be election of officers for the roles of Marshall and Judge. Hope to see you next Saturday!

Just a reminder that our October NCOWS match and annual membership/business meeting is October 17. We also will be having our annual potluck and door prize drawing. Those wishing to participate in the door prize should bring an item, or items totaling at least $20. For the potluck, please plan to bring a covered dish.

It has been suggested that we post what dish we are brining so as to better coordinate. I will be bringing sliced ham. If you are willing, post what you intend to bring to the potluck.

We have received reports of heavy rain and thunderstorms that are currently affecting the range and surrounding area. Weather forecasts indicate periods of heavy rain and thunderstorms through Saturday afternoon. Unfortunately, we are cancelling the JCR September NCOWS match scheduled for tomorrow.

Please note that the next JCR monthly match is this upcoming Saturday, September 12th. We only posted to FB, sent emails...

Please note that the next JCR monthly match is this upcoming Saturday, September 12th. We only posted to FB, sent emails, and messaged members yesterday as we had not confirmed the date of the Bucksnort Longhunters Rendezvous until yesterday. We apologize for the short notice, and hope all can make it! The match is themed around the Mexican Revolution.

Confirmed earlier today, the range road is still has not been repaired and remains impassable. The next JCR NCOWS match will (hopefully) be in August.

Due to the heavy rains and resulting flooding, the road to the range is reported to be impassable. We will monitor the road conditions and hope that the road will be fixed soon, but as of now, the July NCOWS match cancelled. Should the situation change, we will post and email members.
