We envision an equitable and sustainable High Country food system where producers are thriving! In 2012, the Tour featured 22 farms in the High Country.

Programs and Projects Include:

Mary Boyer Sustainable Food and Agriculture grants:
Small grants are awarded to female farmers, ranchers, or processors who plan to create innovative, sustainable solutions to producing or marketing obstacles in the High Country by completing a sustainable food and agriculture project or pursuing educational opportunities in sustainable food and agriculture. Scholarships for female farmers to attend educational conferences. Annual High Country Farm Tour:
The Farm Tour connects the public with local food sources, teaches consumers how food grows, and allows all of us to celebrate agricultural heritage while enjoying our rural landscape. Takes place the first weekend in August. More information: http://farmtour.brwia.org

Workshops and Educational opportunities: Throughout the year, we partner with local organizations and leaders to present educational workshops related to food production, value-adding production endeavors, business skill development, and sustainable agriculture techniques.

We are so excited to welcome our new King Street Farmers' Market Assistant Manager, Ethan Pepper! 🌶

Originally from New Bern, NC, Ethan came to Boone in 2023 to pursue a degree in sustainable development at Appalachian State University. During his time in Boone, he worked in local kitchens and landscaping roles that deepened his love for the food system and the outdoors.

It was by working closely with food, the environment, and a relevant course load that a passion for local food began to develop. This ultimately led to Ethan becoming an intern with BRWIA and the High Country Food Hub in the summer of 2026, where he grew and localized his knowledge of the food system.

In his free time, Ethan enjoys spending time with his partner Jill and their two cats, Baxter and Oliver. He also enjoys gardening, sewing, and long walks outdoors.

Join BRWIA, Transition Blue Ridge and MountainTrue for a day of harvesting and repurposing invasive species at Rivers House Park in Boone, NC!

On November 7th, harvest bittersweet with MountainTrue from 9AM - 12PM, and join Angela Eastman to learn how to create beautiful baskets with this invasive from 1PM until 4PM. Wildwood lunch will be provided with each ticket.

We're looking for someone to step into leading the implementation of BRWIA's fundraising and community engagement strategy, and supporting the organization's mission to ensure long-term sustainability.

Our ideal candidate is detail oriented, extremely organized, has strong interpersonal skills, and is comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.
