We envision an equitable and sustainable High Country food system where producers are thriving! In 2012, the Tour featured 22 farms in the High Country.

Programs and Projects Include:

Mary Boyer Sustainable Food and Agriculture grants:
Small grants are awarded to female farmers, ranchers, or processors who plan to create innovative, sustainable solutions to producing or marketing obstacles in the High Country by completing a sustainable food and agriculture project or pursuing educational opportunities in sustainable food and agriculture. The Farm Tour connects the public with local food sources, teaches consumers how food grows, and allows all of us to celebrate agricultural heritage while enjoying our rural landscape. Takes place the first weekend in August. More information: http://farmtour.brwia.org

Workshops and Educational opportunities: Throughout the year, we partner with local organizations and leaders to present educational workshops related to food production, value-adding production endeavors, business skill development, and sustainable agriculture techniques.

Wow. What a night! 💛

On behalf of the Blue Ridge Women in Agriculture staff and board, THANK YOU for making A Savory Shindig 2026 such an incredible success! We are part of a truly special community. A community that shows up, gives generously, and supports one another. That was so evident on Sunday evening.

The 2026 Savory Shindig raised over $78,000, including over $54,000 on Sunday night alone. This number exceeded all our expectations, and was only made possible by our community's generosity.

These funds will directly support our Local Food as Medicine and Farm to Early Care programs, helping us continue purchasing products from local producers at fair market value and providing weekly stipends to daycare centers for at least 52 more weeks. 🌱🍎

We’ll be savoring the joy, generosity, and community we felt last weekend for many months to come. Thank you for believing in our work and helping us build a sustainable, accessible local food system here in the High Country. 💚

Happy Savory Shindig Week! 🌸🎉

We are so excited to celebrate with everyone at our SOLD OUT fundraiser this Sunday, August 23rd!

This event is something we look forward to every year- it’s a day that that draws our loyal supporters closer, gathers like-minded individuals who care about local food and community, and raises important awareness about BRWIA’s impactful work.

Planet Courage: Stories of Local Climate Heroes

Mountaineers-both current students and alumni- are working together in inspiring ways to secure a resilient future, creating local benefits like health, jobs, innovation, and recreation while putting climate solutions strategies to work in our community.

The evening will explain the food, nature and energy focused climate solutions being led by three local organizations: Blue Ridge Women in Agriculture, MountainTrue and App State’s Renewable Energy Initiative.

We are so excited to announce one of this years beverage partners, Linville Falls Winery! 🍷

One of our greatest joys here at BRWIA are the friendships and connections we get to have with our producers. These relationships are imperative to our mission- they ground us deeper into our community and allow us the ability to connect on and off the farm.

Thank you so much to Jess and Alex of Daybreak Homestead for opening up their space for our staff! It was a beautiful, warm, and sunny evening spent together. 🌸💐🌻🌷🌼

We had such a fun time learning the science behind soil with Dr. Alexia Witcombe from Appalachian State, Bonny from Watauga County Soil and Water, and Sam Dame and Brandon Turlington from the USDA Natural Resource Conservation Service. Attendees participated in respiration tests to gauge the microbial activity in their soils, water infiltration tests on different soil conditions, observed soil cores, looked at the creatures that call soil home under a microscope, and learned about the resources available to them through the county, state, and USDA to steward the soil on their farm and land. 🦋🌱🍄‍🟫🪱

It was a beautiful day on the Blackburn Vannoy farm to dig into soil health. Thank you to everyone who came out!

Earlier this month, we spent the evening with some of our Friends of Agriculture at Hellbender Farm in Lansing, NC. The evening consisted of a guided farm tour, lamb cuddling, wine from out friends at Grandfather Vineyards and beer from Booneshine , and arranging our own flower bouquets cut from the garden. While the sweeping mountain views spoke for themselves, it was an amazing opportunity to relax, connect, and celebrate our local agricultural community.

SHINDIG SPOTLIGHT: Belleville Rendezvous 🎶
We are so excited to announce that our musical guest of the evening for A Savory Shindig is Belleville Rendezvous!

Belleville Rendezvous is a vocally-driven multi-instrumental trio featuring a mix of jazz standards. The trio is composed of Kim France, Lauren Hayworth and Andy Page - all local musicians who have been performing for years, all adding different musical skills and backgrounds to the band.
