On a rainy evening in May, our BRWIA team had the privilege of participating in a culinary journey unlike any other. Chef Ken Gordon and Michelin and Green Star Chef Sam Hart crafted an immersive dining experience that blended nostalgia, playfulness, and extraordinary attention to detail.

Together, they have designed a five-course chronological journey titled, A Day in the Life. Throughout the evening, Chef Ken and Chef Sam reminded the guests that food is a story- one that continues to unfold through intentional sourcing, thoughtful preparation, and the people with whom we share it.

This experience was a beautiful (and delicious!) reminder of why local food is so important to our community. In the true spirit of that belief, Chef Ken and Chef Sam generously donated a percentage of the evening's sales to Blue Ridge Women in Agriculture. This kind of support goes directly into the work we do every day to build a thriving, equitable food system across the High Country, and we are deeply grateful.

Blue Ridge Women in Agriculture extends our utmost gratitude to The Gamekeeper and Counter- for inviting us to be the beneficiary of this special evening. Their commitment to strengthening our local food community means the world to us.

Last Friday, we hosted a group of BRWIA's Friends of Agriculture for an open house featuring incredible small bites prepared by Chef Ross Aglialoro using ingredients from Food Hub producers, along with local brews from Booneshine Brewing.

It was a wonderful evening spent with people who really believe in and support the work we do here at BRWIA!

Blue Ridge Women in Agriculture is honored to announce the first recipient of the Brittany Robinson Memorial Scholarship: Watauga High School senior and soon-to-be graduate, Marina Wilson!

Created in memory of Brittany Robinson, this scholarship supports young women pursuing futures in agriculture, animal sciences, and sustainable development in the High Country. The scholarship was established to honor Brittany’s passion for sustainable agriculture, animal husbandry, and local food systems, and reflects her deep commitment to caring for both land and community.

As a first-generation farmer and Environmental Sciences graduate, Brittany’s approach to farming focused on sustainability and community-centered practices. Her kindness, leadership, and legacy continue to inspire others. Marina plans to attend Lees-McRae College and pursue a career in large animal veterinary medicine with the goal of returning home to serve High Country farmers through a mobile veterinary clinic. She shared that the scholarship “will give [her] the financial freedom to focus fully on [her] studies.”

We are proud to support Marina as the inaugural recipient of the Brittany Robinson Memorial Scholarship and look forward to the impact she will make in the future of agriculture.
