Today in A.T. history. 📚 On this day in 1923, "Maine to Georgia" was adopted as the official motto of the Appalachian Trail. Over 100 years later, this phrase still inspires visitors from all over the world with a reminder of the scale of the A.T., which traverses 14 states and almost 2,200 miles.

Join The Trout Gallery and the Central Pennsylvania Conservancy for a special tree dedication ceremony celebrating the planting of three new trees at Letort Spring Garden Preserve.

This event is part of the community outreach program accompanying Branch: Trees in American Art, The Trout Gallery’s current exhibition exploring the cultural, ecological, and artistic significance of trees in American life.

The newly planted trees symbolize the partnership between art and environmental stewardship, as well as our shared commitment to preserving and enhancing local natural spaces.

Following the dedication, participants are invited to enjoy light refreshments and hear an update on current projects and future plans for the Preserve from Jesse Price, Land Stewardship Director with the Central Pennsylvania Conservancy.

On Saturday, October 31st, the Cumberland Valley Appalachian Trail Club (CVATC) and the Keystone Trails Association (KTA) will hold a yard sale at the Scott Farm, 301 Bernheisel Bridge Rd., Carlisle, to help raise funds to renovate the trail center facilities. KTA has already been awarded significant public grants for the planned renovation, but more funds are still needed. Indeed, some of the already awarded grants and additional grants to be applied for require privately raised matching funds. The upcoming yard sale will be the first of many future activities to raise the necessary matching funds.

The yard sale will feature outdoor sports equipment (for camping, hiking, biking, skiing, fishing, paddling, etc.), hand tools, trail guides and various outdoor books and vintage furniture. To donate items for the sale, please contact Craig Dunn at [email protected] or phone 717-761-7723. An exhibit of the renovation plans for the facilities and opportunities to volunteer for KTA and CVATC will also be at the sale. Hope to see you at the sale.
