4ocean Foundation is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. We ensure that all contributions are 100% tax-deductible in the U.S. and select countires, directly funding our mission to clean and preserve the marine environment. Our Foundation focuses exclusively on partnering with local captains and crews to clean plastic and trash from our ocean and creating educational campaigns that expand awareness.

4ocean Foundation was established as a separate entity from the 4ocean Public Benefit Corporation (PBC), our for-profit counterpart. This strategic move was made to expand our impact on ocean conservation by accessing diverse streams of capital and philanthropy. Why We Clean:
Our lives are deeply connected to the ocean, it is one of the most vital ecosystems on Earth. Covering more than 70% of the planet’s surface, the ocean generates a significant portion of the oxygen we breathe and sustains countless forms of life. It's where we work, unwind, connect with nature, and feel truly alive. Plastic pollution is a dual threat. Existing plastic is a significant threat to marine life and ecosystems however, when plastic photodegrades (breaks down) one plastic water bottle can turn into millions of pieces of microplastic. Microplastic pollution is exponentially threatening the health of every living being on our planet. Seeing our ocean, rivers, and coastlines polluted with plastic, wildlife struggling to survive, and communities losing their livelihoods - that’s what fuels our mission. We clean to protect the people and places we love. Not just for today, but for every generation to come. Sound up to hear the raw sounds of a river cleanup as the crew works to give this river a fresh start.

Only a week went by between cleanups, but the river boom had been working hard. On August 5th, the crew returned to Mengwi River and got to work collecting various types of single-use and household waste.

At times this work can be repetitive and discouraging, but these crews don't let that get to them. They show up, ready to make a difference for our planet and our ocean.

7 million pounds. That's how much plastic and trash we've removed from the ocean together, roughly the equivalent of 336 million plastic bottles.

None of this happened by chance. Every single pound tells a story of people who refused to look away, who saw a problem and chose to act.

It's the result of a relentless community showing up again and again, paired with crews who put in the work day after day. When they encounter obstacles like a submerged tire, an immensely polluted canal, or a shoreline buried under piles of trash, they don't back down. They join forces and work together to give these special areas a new life.

This section of the Ijo Gading River was transformed into a clean, free flowing body of water, able to support life instead of being overwhelmed with waste.

A world of difference made with just boats, nets, and a crew who refused to let this river become a dumping ground on its way to the ocean. Because whatever doesn’t get pulled out here ends up in the ocean and every trip is a chance to stop that before it happens.

The Ijo Gading River is Bali's main lifeline, connecting communities and waterways across the island. Stretching more than 18 miles, it serves as a vital resource for the people who depend on it, which is why the crew keeps coming back.

Moving along the river in cleanup vessels, the crew works to retrieve as much trash as possible, because ultimately this river flows directly into the ocean. Protecting life upstream makes a real impact downstream, cutting off the flow of waste before it ever reaches the sea.

At Mengening Beach, the crew encountered a shoreline that looked clean at first glance, but closer inspection revealed trash that had made its way into the reef. Lodged between rocks and scattered across the grassy reef bed, the crew got to work removing every piece they could find.

Bali sits in the heart of the Coral Triangle, home to over 75% of the world's coral species and the most biodiverse marine area on the planet. Every piece of plastic left behind threatens the fish, turtles, and coral that depend on this fragile ecosystem to survive. That's why this work matters so much: it protects communities inland and beyond the shoreline alike.

Most rivers and waterways around the world are deeply connected to the ocean.

This canal in Bali is supposed to carry water for irrigation, feeding fields and supporting the community. Instead, it was buried under thick layers of trash, barely able to flow.

The crews got in the water together, clearing waste bag after bag until the canal could finally breathe again.

Canal 41 was clogged near Jembrana, choked by trash, so the Riverboom and River teams joined forces to fix it. Down in the water and along the banks, they didn't stop until every last piece of waste was gone. This is what teamwork and determination look like in action.

At Prapat Agung Beach, the crew refused to back down when they spotted a massive tire lodged beneath the surface, well out of easy reach. Instead, they came together as a team to brainstorm the best way to lift it out.

Working from the Dugong, their largest marine cleanup vessel, the crew rigged a pulley system and hoisted the tire aboard. Rather than admit defeat, they pulled together, worked through a tough obstacle, and helped protect our ocean a little more.

Removing debris like this matters for more than what we can see. Tires contain synthetic rubber, plastics, metals, and chemical additives that can break down and leach into the surrounding environment over time. As tires degrade, they can also contribute tiny tire-wear particles to the water, adding another source of microplastic and chemical pollution that can threaten aquatic life.

One tire may seem small against the scale of the ocean, but this is what protecting it looks like: finding the pollution, tackling the hard stuff, and getting it out.
