4ocean Foundation is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. We ensure that all contributions are 100% tax-deductible in the U.S. and select countires, directly funding our mission to clean and preserve the marine environment. Our Foundation focuses exclusively on partnering with local captains and crews to clean plastic and trash from our ocean and creating educational campaigns that expand awareness.

4ocean Foundation was established as a separate entity from the 4ocean Public Benefit Corporation (PBC), our for-profit counterpart. This strategic move was made to expand our impact on ocean conservation by accessing diverse streams of capital and philanthropy. Why We Clean:
Our lives are deeply connected to the ocean, it is one of the most vital ecosystems on Earth. Covering more than 70% of the planet’s surface, the ocean generates a significant portion of the oxygen we breathe and sustains countless forms of life. It's where we work, unwind, connect with nature, and feel truly alive. Plastic pollution is a dual threat. Existing plastic is a significant threat to marine life and ecosystems however, when plastic photodegrades (breaks down) one plastic water bottle can turn into millions of pieces of microplastic. Microplastic pollution is exponentially threatening the health of every living being on our planet. Seeing our ocean, rivers, and coastlines polluted with plastic, wildlife struggling to survive, and communities losing their livelihoods - that’s what fuels our mission. This World Ocean Month, 4ocean Foundation is proud to partner with Mission Blue and the Coral Triangle Center to protect the Nusa Penida Hope Spot in Bali, Indonesia 🌊

At a time when our ocean needs more than awareness alone, this partnership reflects the power of collective action rooted in hope, community, and shared responsibility.

Recently, our crews had the honor of visiting the Coral Triangle Center and witnessing firsthand the incredible work being done to protect one of the world’s most important marine ecosystems. It’s safe to say this is just the beginning.

On June 6, ahead of World Ocean Day, our organizations will join local community members and volunteers for a large-scale cleanup at the Hope Spot, demonstrating the power of partnership and collective action in protecting the ocean.

Throughout the month of June, follow along as we share stories from the frontlines of conservation and explore what it means to reimagine hope, collaboration, and ocean action for the future of our blue planet.

Earlier this month, we were honored to welcome 2-time E1 World Champion, Team Brady's Pilot Emma Kimilainen to 4ocean Foundation’s global headquarters in Boca Raton, Florida🌊

During her visit, our Founder, Alex J Schulze and Executive Director, Jack Lighton personally showed Emma around and shared how her partnership has accelerated real impact for the Ocean across industries, communities, and continents.

That spirit of collaboration is exactly what powers our work with Team Brady in the 2026 E1 Series. This year, 4ocean Foundation has committed to removing 200 kilograms of plastic and trash from the Ocean for every point Team Brady scores throughout the season, doubling last year’s commitment and impact.

So far, together, we’ve removed 11,400 kilograms, with all eyes now on Dubrovnik in June🏁

From the race course to cleanup operations around the world, partnerships like this help turn awareness into action for a healthier Ocean.

It's not just the big hauls that matter.

Batu Belig Beach is a frequent cleanup site, its shoreline constantly scattered with trash that returns with every wave, no matter how much work goes into restoring it.

Even so, the crews show up day after day with the same energy and determination, refusing to be discouraged by the reality in front of them. Because every piece of trash pulled from the sand is one less piece in the ocean, and one less threat to the wildlife that calls it home.

While cleanup is critical to protecting fragile ecosystems from legacy plastic pollution, lasting change also requires reducing plastic production, advancing better alternatives, and strengthening environmental policy. We’re grateful to the individuals, organizations, and communities around the world working across every lane of this massive challenge. A rising tide truly lifts all ships.

Beaches are meant to be full of wildlife and natural beauty, not trash. But the good news is, that can change.

Along Tanjung Pandan Beach, a crew got to work and made a real difference. With every piece of trash they removed, the coastline got a little closer to what it should look like. It's proof that when people show up and put in the effort, nature has a chance to recover.

Ghost nets are one of the ocean's most silent threats: abandoned fishing gear that never stops hunting.

Crews pull these nets from the water and coastlines, disentangling the nets to help marine ecosystems breathe a little easier. After the nets are removed, they are transported back to our facilities and the materials are repurposed into our river boom interception systems, protecting our ocean instead of harming it.

We all have a role to play in protecting our ocean. Small actions and mindful choices on the water go a long way, remember to fish sustainably and responsibly and leave no gear behind.

Sometimes, the greatest threats are the ones you can't see.

On May 5th, the ocean team joined local authorities at Menjangan Island to remove a ghost net that had been silently suffocating the coral reef beneath it. This is one of the largest nets that the crew has removed at 500 meters long (the length of five football fields) and nearly a full ton in weight.

Left unchecked, ghost nets like this one can threaten marine life for decades. Ghost nets are abandoned, lost, or discarded fishing nets that continue to drift through the ocean, entangling and killing fish, sea turtles, marine mammals, and coral for years after being discarded from fishing vessels.

For four hours, divers and snorkelers worked carefully to cut through and disentangle the net, every movement deliberate and mindful to avoid causing further harm to the fragile reef below.

What was lifted from the water that day wasn't just a ton of netting, it was a ton of weight off the coral reef, restoring the hope of growth and life to the ecosystem beneath.

One net. One interception system. Hundreds of pounds of trash stopped before reaching the ocean.

On May 5th, the river crew in Mendoyo, Bali got to work emptying the river boom, a powerful barrier that works around the clock to intercept waste before it can pollute our ocean. Every haul is proof that simple solutions can make a massive impact.

One plastic bottle doesn't seem like much, until it's one of millions🌊

Plastic doesn't disappear, it ends up in our ocean, our food, and our future.

But, change can be small.

Every year, 11 million metric tons of plastic enters the ocean, and a plastic bottle can take up to 450 years to break down. If every person on Earth skipped just one single-use bottle in their lifetime, that's over 8 billion pieces of plastic that never get the chance to become part of that number. That's the power of small choices made by many.

Local action. Global impact. It starts with one person.

Nuarta, one of the content creators based in Bali, grew up swimming and fishing in the river running through his home village of Mengwi. It wasn't just a river -- it was a resource, a gathering place, a memory. But over time, it filled with trash and the place he loved began to disappear.

What happens to a village river doesn't stay in the village. Trash that enters waterways travels downstream into the ocean and across borders. Local neglect becomes a global problem.

But the reverse is also true.

With encouragement from his brother, a local village official, Nuarta helped request a river boom — a barrier designed to catch trash before it could flow downstream. The team traveled to Mengwi to complete the installation.

Days later, they returned. The boom was already full.

This is how the ocean gets protected. Not just from the shore, but from the source and led by people who care. Through community leadership, local education, and people like Nuarta who love a place enough to fight for it.
