A Breath of Hope was founded when a group of lung cancer patients decided it was time to raise awareness about lung cancer, support patients, and take a stand against unfair research funding levels. Lung cancer claims more lives each year than breast, prostate, and colon cancers combined, yet it receives the least amount of funding per cancer death. Today, Senator Tina Smith issued an announcement that mentions Katherine Benson. Katherine was diagnosed with stage 4 non-small cell lung cancer at 40 years old. As a young nonsmoker and mother of four, this diagnosis was a shock to her family and the last thing she ever expected. We are honored that Senator Smith named Katherine in this announcement. She represents the countless women facing lung cancer who need more investments in research, treatment and cures. Let's make sure this bipartisan legislation is signed.
