The October OE324 General Membership Meeting is this Wednesday, October 14, at 6:00 PM at the Operating Engineers 324 Grand Rapids West Michigan Construction Career Center at 900 40th Street SE, Grand Rapids, MI.

The meeting will be broadcast to Detroit, Freeland, Gladstone, Grayling, and Sault Ste. Marie.

The Sault Ste. Marie meeting broadcast will be held at Kewadin Casino, 2186 Shunk Rd, Sault Ste. Marie, MI.

This October, Operating Engineers 324 will have two open Application periods for the Heavy Equipment Operator Apprenticeship.

From October 5 through October 9, OE324 will be accepting requests from Career Technical Education (CTE) graduates for direct entry to the Apprenticeship evaluation process.

Candidates *MUST* have completed one of the listed CTE courses, have verified high school transcripts, and meet all other listed criteria to be eligible.

From October 19 through October 23, OE324 will be accepting applications from any qualified candidate for the Apprenticeship program.

Requests/Applications will be offered on a first-come, first-serve basis, and are limited.

On the 25th anniversary of the tragic events of 9/11/2001, we pause to remember those who tragically lost their lives, as well as those who risked and sometimes sacrificed all as First Responders including many brother and sister Operating Engineers. We also thank those who have served our country as veterans, and the countless others who offered their assistance to the survivors and at Ground Zero. May their memories remain with us, and may we never forget.

"Proponents of a road usage charge system say it’s more equitable because it accounts for the transition to more fuel-efficient and alternative-fuel vehicles, which have reduced fuel tax revenue and shifted more of the road funding burden on drivers who may not be able to afford those vehicles.

“We’ve been using a fuel tax for the last 100 years and that’s worked very well,” Roberts said. “Over time as our fleet has evolved and we’ve got a lot of different vehicles on the roads, that link between road usage and payment has really become flawed or a little more broken.”

The state has allocated $7.65 million to study a per-mile fee system as an alternative to fuel taxes for funding Michigan's roads.

LABOR DAY IS MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 7!
JOIN OPERATING ENGINEERS 324 AT ONE OF THE FIVE STATEWIDE EVENTS TO CELEBRATE!

DETROIT LABOR DAY PARADE AND PICNIC
Equipment line up will take place at 8:00 AM in front of the Stationary Engineers Education Center (1550 Howard St, Detroit, MI 48216)
The Parade begins at 9:00 AM
There will be a picnic in the parking lot of the Operating Engineers 324 Stationary Engineer Career Center, 1550 Howard, Detroit, MI after the walk starting at 10:00 AM
Because of the picnic, there will be limited parking in the parking lot. On street parking is available on Abbott and Lafayette. Please be aware some streets will begin to be closed as early as 7 AM, so you may want to allow yourself extra time to navigate the street closures.

ESCANABA LABOR DAY PARADE
Parade at noon down Ludington Street. Celebration to take place at the Municipal Dock immediately following parade.

MACKINAC BRIDGE LABOR DAY PICNIC AND BRIDGE WALK:
The staging area for the Labor Day Picnic and Bridge Walk is at Alexander Henry Park next to (east) the bridge entrance and Colonial Michilimackinac park on the city’s north end. The picnic will begin at 10:00 am with lunch at 11:00 am. For those who plan on walking the bridge, please meet at the 324 banner at the Alexander Henry Park entrance. The walk starts at 7:00 am and you can walk from the south side, halfway across the bridge, turn around and return to the same place eliminating the need for bussing. Walkers will start from St. Ignace and Mackinac City.

MUSKEGON LABOR DAY PARADE AND PICNIC
Parade participants must arrive between 10:00 am and 10:30 am rain or shine. Lineup will be at 486 West Western Ave. Food, drinks and shirts will be provided. We look forward to seeing you again this year!

NEGAUNEE LABOR DAY PARADE
Parade beings at 11:00 am at the Jim Thomas Pavilion at Jackson Mine Park. The picnic will be from noon until 4 pm.
