On Memorial Day, Operating Engineers 324 honors the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country. Today, we remember them with solemn gratitude, reflect on the freedoms secured through their sacrifice, and honor their legacy with peace and respect.

Throughout the month of June, Operating Engineers 324 will be accepting requests from Career Technical Education (CTE) graduates for direct entry to the Apprenticeship evaluation process.

This includes the Heavy Equipment Operator, Heavy Equipment Technician, and Stationary Engineer programs. The schedule is below:

June 8 - 12: Heavy Equipment Operator
June 15-19: Heavy Equipment Technician
June 22-26: Stationary Engineer/HVAC

Candidates *MUST* have completed one of the listed CTE courses, have verified high school transcripts, and meet all other listed criteria to be eligible.

Requests will be offered on a first-come, first-serve basis, and are limited.

The May 2026 Operating Engineers 324 General Membership Meeting will be held this Wednesday, May 20, at the OE324 Stationary Engineer Career Center at 1550 Howard, Detroit, MI at 6:00pm. The meeting will be broadcast to Freeland, Gladstone, Grand Rapids, and Grayling. We look forward to seeing you there!

REGION III AREA MEETING LOCATION CHANGE:

The location for the May Region III Area Meeting to be held next Tuesday, May 5, at 7:00 p.m. has changed.

The meeting will be held at the Courtyard by Marriott Battle Creek, located at 12891 Harper Village Dr, Battle Creek, MI 49014, in the Beckley Room. The date and time remain the same.

This change is being made due to the closure of the Four Points by Sheraton hotel.

The first day of Michigan Construction Career Days 2026 is in the books, and we are setting some records! This year the event, presented by M.A.S.C.I and hosted at the Construction Career Center in Howell, boasts over 5,200 registered students from over 100 schools from all-over Michigan. We also have the largest number of sponsors and exhibitors yet. Students get to experience hands-on learning from dozens of skilled trades unions, contractors, as well as learn about construction programs with multiple colleges and universities and even government and industry programs. Today started a bit rainy, but it didn't dampen the spirits or the turnout, and we were even visited by Governor Whitmer. Tomorrow is day two, and we are ready to show the next generation of skilled tradespeople and construction professionals what the opportunities in our industry are all about!

On Worker Memorial Day, we honor those who lost their lives on the job, and rededicate ourselves to fighting to make sure every worker returns home safely at the end of the day.

Ryan Doom, director of transportation and infrastructure for Operating Engineers 324, which represents Road Commission for Oakland County road workers as well as many employees of private contractors working on RCOC road projects, added that “Operating Engineers 324 represents the men and women doing this work every day, and nothing matters more to us than making sure they return home safely to their families.

“We are constantly working to improve work zone safety through training, awareness and strong jobsite practices,” Doom said. “Our partnerships with the Road Commission for Oakland County and the Genesee County Road Commission are important because when labor and management stand together on safety, we send a stronger message: Slow down, stay alert and respect the work zone. Better decisions behind the wheel save lives.”
