For some, Memorial Day is a long weekend.

For others, it’s a reminder of the brothers, sisters, friends, and loved ones who never made it home.

Today, we remember the true cost of freedom. Never forget their sacrifice.

The numbers don’t tell the full story.

You’ve probably seen the latest report showing veteran su***de has dropped to around 17 per day. On the surface, that sounds like progress.

But that number only reflects deaths officially ruled as su***de.

It does not include overdoses where intent is unclear.
It does not include single-vehicle wrecks with no explanation.
It does not include other self-inflicted deaths that are labeled as accidents.

There is a growing body of research using what’s called “self-injury mortality,” a broader measure that captures these cases. When those are included, estimates suggest the real number could be closer to 35 to 40 or more veterans lost each day.

That changes the conversation.

This is not about arguing statistics. It is about recognizing the full weight of what veterans are facing so we can respond the right way. Too many are still fighting battles long after their service ends, and too many are doing it alone.

This is personal.

Task Force Freedom was created for veterans and their families to make life after service clearer, more stable, and more hopeful.

After serving as an Army Infantryman in Iraq and Afghanistan, I’ve seen firsthand the challenges many veterans face when they transition out. The structure is gone, the mission changes, and too many are left trying to figure it out alone.

That’s why this organization exists.

We are working to provide real support, practical guidance, and the resources veterans need to navigate civilian life with purpose and stability.

Because when veterans feel like there is nowhere to turn, that’s when things can take a dangerous turn.

Our goal is simple, make sure no veteran ever feels like su***de is their only option.

Everything we’re building rolls up into that one mission.
