The next meeting of the Watkinsville Garden Club is scheduled for Thursday, March 5, 2026, at Union Christian Church (1130 Union Church Road, Watkinsville) beginning at 10:00 am.

Our Speaker will be Jim Moneyhun. The subject of his presentation will be TULIPS. Mr. Moneyhun is a horticulturist at the State Botanical Garden of Georgia and curator of the Flower Garden.

The cold weather yesterday didn't deter the Watkinsville Garden Club from working on a new project. We planted 350 daffodils, vinca, succulents, crocus, and grape hyacinths near the entrance to Thomas Preserve.

Our next meeting will be held Thursday January 5 at 19 am at Union Christian Church. Our guest speaker will be Daniel Queen, Oconee County Extension 4-H Educator. Covered dish lunch will follow. Come join us!

Our next meeting is this Thursday, October 6, at Union Christian Church at 10 am.
Jenny Buley, a 24-year veteran of the Georgia Trial Gardens, will be our featured speaker.
As usual, we will have a covered dish luncheon.

Paul Duncan, Assistant Director of the Latin American Ethnobotanical Garden at UGA, will present the program.

Following the program and business meeting, we will have our usual potluck lunch. We look forward to seeing you there.

The Watkinsville Garden Club will meet on Thursday, March 3, at 10:00 a.m. in the fellowship hall at Union Christian Church. Dr. Michael Dirr will speak about oak trees (King of the Forest). He will share his favorite top ten list. There will be a variety of oaks to be given away. Plant an oak tree!

As usual, a covered dish luncheon will follow the business meeting. The hostess team for March will provide the entrees and drinks. Everyone else should bring a side dish or dessert.

Don’t forget our upcoming meeting this Thursday, December 2, at the state headquarters of the Georgia Garden Club at the State Botanical Gardens in Athens. This is our annual silent auction and begins at 10 am. Bring a finger food and a friend to do some early Christmas shopping.

The Athens Area Master Gardeners have grown several unusual varieties of garlic at the Plant-a-Row garden located at Farm 441 at Thomas Orchards. They will be on sale at the Athens-Clarke County Cooperative Extension Office, 275 Cleveland Road in Bogart on Saturday, June 26 from 10 a.m - 2:00 p.m. Below are descriptions of the cultivars available:

GEORGIA FIRE (originated from the Republic of Georgia!) is a hardneck garlic that has the classic garlic porcelain sheen and flavor. It averages 6-8 cloves per bulb. This garlic can be eaten raw as it has a pleasantly hot flavor.
ROMANIAN RED is a hardneck garlic with bulbs that are cream white with shades of purple skins. It produces 4-5 large bulbs with a delicious flavor that is pungent and long lasting.
MUSIC is a hardneck garlic that is white skinned with a blush of pink. It produces 4-7 extra large cloves with a medium hot, true garlic flavor.
The garlic will be sold in bunches of three for $5.00, cash only. The choices of bundles are:
Variety Bunch - one Georgia Fire, one Romanian Red and one Music variety.
Red Bunch - One Romanian Red and Two Music varieties.
Blues Bunch - Three Music Variety.
