Friday, June 19th is Juneteenth—a federal holiday commemorating the end of slavery in the United States.
On this day in 1865, Union troops arrived in Galveston Bay, Texas, bringing news of freedom to more than 250,000 enslaved African Americans—two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed. While it wasn't the final day slavery was completely abolished in the U.S., Juneteenth has become a powerful, national day of celebration and reflection.

Sebastian’s Log – Summer Learning – Day 8

I checked in at the Children’s desk at the Library and found out that I earned 3 gems – one for starting a journal, one for reading in my PJs for 20 minutes and one for reading a book about dinosaurs. I’m saving my gems for a bigger prize. This week my mom and I worked in the garden. We planted catnip; my favorite! When the catnip is grown, we will pick it and dry it so that I have enough to enjoy in the winter months.
