🍪 Meet the Team: Tamar Conner 🍪
As we continue introducing the incredible young leaders behind Period Zero, we're excited to spotlight Tamar Conner, our Lead Youth Ambassador.
A graduate of Baldwin-Whitehall School District and the Baking & Pastry Arts Program at Steel Center for Career and Technical Education, Tamar has built a reputation as a leader, entrepreneur, and role model for younger students. He serves as Vice President of SkillsUSA, competed at the state level, and is the founder of Conner's Cookies, a growing business built around his passion for baking and creativity.
This fall, Tamar will continue his education at Westmoreland County Community College, where he plans to further develop his skills in Baking and Pastry Arts while continuing to mentor and support the next generation of student leaders at Period Zero.
As our Lead Youth Ambassador, Tamar helps guide younger ambassadors, contributes ideas for programming, and serves as a voice for students throughout the organization. His leadership is rooted in encouragement, persistence, and helping others discover their own potential.
When reflecting on his time with Period Zero, one memory stands out. During one of our financial literacy and entrepreneurship sessions last fall, students learned about startup capital and ways entrepreneurs can access funding. Around the same time, Brentwood Bank was hosting its "Where's Ginnie?" community challenge. Tamar and I spent an evening searching parks, trails, and gathering places throughout South Park with flashlights, checking everywhere we could think of in hopes of finding her.
We never found Ginnie.
But what we did find was something far more important—a connection built on trust, encouragement, and shared experiences. Tamar later shared that one of the reasons he continued coming back to Period Zero was because he felt someone genuinely cared about his future and believed in what he could accomplish.
That's what Period Zero is all about.
On August 5, Tamar will lead our Teen Networking Nights session, The Creative Challenge, where students will work together to solve problems, think outside the box, and discover how creativity, collaboration, and resilience play a role in success. Anyone who knows Tamar knows he loves a good challenge, and he's excited to help other students stretch their thinking and discover what they're capable of.
Tamar's journey reminds us that leadership isn't about having all the answers. It's about showing up, staying curious, supporting others, and continuing to grow.
Congratulations, Tamar, on your graduation and everything you've accomplished. We are proud to have you helping lead the workforce of tomorrow.
