Hello community!

Although our facilitator originally came forward with a Dream Catcher making workshop, there will be a different workshop today. Dream Catchers originated from and continue to be a traditional practice of Anishinaabe and Plains native cultures and, because the facilitator is not from these communities, there was confusion and frustration from community members as to why they were facilitating and why the MCC was hosting this type of workshop. Due to these concerns, we decided it was best to not continue with it and we apologize for our lack of critical research and intentionality. We remain committed to serving our communities and we are immensely thankful to our Native American and Indigenous community for engaging in these conversations and critiques.

The facilitator, Ita, is instead offering a Paper Mache Mask making workshop today at the same time, 11am-1pm. We hope to see you soon!

Pull up to Night in the Archives, Tuesday March 11th from 6:30 - 8:30 pm ! We will have so much fun making memories as we reminisce with our community’s archives !

did you know, Octavia Butler’s novel Parable of the Sower began on July 20th, 2024? 😵‍💫 and did you know she wrote about wild fires happening on February 1st, 2025? 😀

well… if you did know that or just think that’s an unsettling coincidence, WE HAVE A PROGRAM FOR YOU 🫵

Food for the Apocalypse grounds in the principles Butler taught us and QTBIPOC preppers to keep each other fed and sustained through our current time of friction 😵‍💫🫂

hello community~ ☺️

wanting to participate in more lovely workshops with Lia García? 🧜‍♀️ well you’re in luck, she’ll be doing another workshop for the Week of Cultural Resistance 🤩

Lia García is a transgender Mexican poet, artist, and activist engaged in affective and pedagogical work.

her second program will “put into practice the proposal of radical tenderness, which is a concept and a political action born from the voice of Lia Garcia (La Novia Sirena) and that works as a bridge of creativity to weave pedagogical processes of healing and restorative justice in contexts of complexity.“ be sure to join us to finish this workshop series in community 🫂

rsvp at bit.ly/wocr-6 💙 food and supplies will be included, you won’t want to miss it!

Did you know the MCC has a collection of archives—photographs, protest posters, zines, newspapers, prints, art—from liberation movements from the 1970s to today? 🪼 📘 🪼 📘 🪼📘

Join us and swim through the archives for our 🌊Night in the Archives🌊! Come learn tangibly about the history of student organizing and what it means for the people to document their own stories. We will have dinner 🫐🥣🐟, a gallery walk 🐬🥿🐳, time to discuss the archives 🦕🗣️🦋, and an activity where we will create archives ourselves to add to the MCC’s collection.

We have been wanting to share these beautiful and empowering memories with you for years and are so proud to present these archives to you, community! Let’s learn from our ancestors’ struggle together. 🦕🦕🦕

Please join us on Monday, March 10th from 11am-1pm for a Dream Catcher making workshop led by Ita Nti (meaning bright flower, from Oaxacan Mixtec origin) a local Oaxacan Bay Area artist and healer.

Food and all supplies will be provided, but if you have yarn or threads you’d like to use, please bring them.
