Burgers grilled to order, served 5:30 to 7:30 PM. Crispy fries, cold drinks, and good company.

🥩 TOMORROW, SATURDAY: STEAK NIGHT
Our biggest fundraiser of the month, served 5:30 to 7:30 PM. NY Strip, smoked pork chop, baked potato, and salad.

🇺🇸 FROM THE COMMANDER 🇺🇸

Today, September 2, is V-J Day, marking the formal surrender of Japan and the end of World War II, 81 years ago.

Victory came at an enormous price. More than 400,000 American service members gave their lives in that war, and countless others carried it with them for the rest of theirs.

Our World War II veterans are leaving us at an ever-increasing rate, and soon their stories will no longer be told to us firsthand. Keeping those stories alive falls to us, and especially to organizations like the VFW. We must remember Pearl Harbor, Normandy, Iwo Jima, the Battle of the Bulge, and every place Americans fought and died. We must remember our prisoners of war, those who never came home, and those still missing.

So today, take a few minutes to remember them. If you know a World War II veteran, thank them. If your family has a story, tell it. If you have children or grandchildren, teach them why this day matters.

Freedom survives when each generation remembers what the last one sacrificed to preserve it.

To the Greatest Generation, thank you. To those who never returned, we remember you. And to those who remain missing, you will never be forgotten.

September kicks off with a double dose of good eating this weekend. Here's the lineup:

🧵 WEDNESDAY, Sep 2
Sewing Club, come stitch and socialize. Canteen opens 4:00 PM.

👑 THURSDAY, Sep 3
QUEEN OF HEARTS drawing at 6:30 PM, members only. The pot keeps climbing and the board keeps shrinking, so get your tickets in early.
(House Committee Meeting at 7:00 for members.)

BURGER NIGHT. Burgers grilled to order, served 5:30 to 7:30 PM.

🥩 SATURDAY, Sep 5
STEAK NIGHT, our first Saturday tradition and biggest fundraiser of the month. Served 5:30 to 7:30 PM. NY Strip, smoked pork chop, baked potato, and salad. Come hungry.

Our Run for the V 5K is coming Sunday, September 20. A 5K run, ruck, or walk to raise awareness for su***de prevention, with proceeds benefiting veterans and first responders. Registration is open now, and we'll have more details soon. Lace up and join us.

We lost the Queen of Country on August 25. There is exactly one right way to send off a woman who spent 80 years making the world louder, kinder and a whole lot more fun, and it involves a full Canteen and somebody butchering "Jolene" at the top of their lungs.
