πŸŽ‰ We have a new homebuyer! Abeba (top photo, in center, gray top, next to her friend) was recently surprised with the news that her application to the Homeownership Program was approved. She is pictured with (from left to right): CFO Damien Smith, Executive Director Yvonne Golczewski, and Homeownership Program Manager Heather Gibson.

πŸ’ͺπŸ”¨ What comes next? All homebuyers put in partner hours -- 250 total -- during their homeownership journey. Those hours are comprised of working side-by-side with Habitat volunteers on their home or another homebuyer's house; taking financial literacy classes to help build financial independence; and, attending home maintenance classes so that they can address any future repair issues once they are homeowners.

πŸ’‘ Here's a fun fact: Abeba (bottom photos, pink top) has already begun working her physical hours at the build site. She is pictured volunteering alongside another Habitat homebuyer, Ayal, who is also contributing toward her own partner hours. Abeba and Ayal not only share a special bond in their Ethiopian heritage, but their homeownership journey will culminate in their becoming next-door neighbors when the duplex they are helping to build is completed!

πŸ”„πŸ˜οΈ Did you know? Habitat offers homebuyers an affordable mortgage with monthly payments and these mortgage payments made by Habitat homeowners help build more affordable homes. No investment is more powerful for long-term wealth building than homeownership.

πŸ‘ A HUGE thank you to the Girl Scout Community 679 Encampment, where different GS troops spent a weekend camping activity at Indian Lake Camp!

🎁 These primarily Juniors and Cadettes decorated and assembled 150 swag bags as thank you goodies for our Women Build volunteers who are working hard on our build site this month!

🫢 It just goes to show, you don't have to lift a hammer to help Habitat!

πŸ‘ Thank you to the Women Build Team Hearts & Hammers and Team Messy Buns & Nail Guns for their hard work at Norman Avenue, Aberdeen today! The homebuyers of this duplex were also volunteering side-by-side with our Women Build teams. Watch our video interviews and photographs taken today.

πŸ₯ͺ We are looking for volunteers to provide lunches to our Women Build volunteers on three upcoming build dates. If you can help (approximately 15 lunches for one build day), please contact Michele at [email protected].

Home is more than a place. It’s stability, safety, belonging, and the foundation people build their lives around. This National Homeownership Month, we’re celebrating the value of having a safe and affordable place to call home and the communities that make that possible.
