Stewards Individual Placements We connect passionate people through national service to preserve environments and strengthen communities. Stewards supports two AmeriCorps Teams: 1.

We are excited to extend a well-deserved congratulations to Katie Hostetler, Volunteer Program Manager at Chiricahua National Monument for their recognition as Volunteer Program Manager of the Year!

Katie has supported AmeriCorps members from Stewards Individual Placements for the last two years and is welcoming a Youth Empowerment Steward (YES) to their team this fall!

There are endless ways to enjoy America's national parks, but becoming a Junior Ranger is one of our favorites. Have you taken the oath?

Here is Stewards IP Program Coordinator Ryleigh and Western Region Agreements Manager Cali swearing in at Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park - Seattle, WA during our recent staff trip to Seattle.

The Junior Ranger program teaches kids to explore, learn, and protect our natural and cultural heritage. Next time you are at a national park, grab a free Junior Ranger booklet, complete fun tasks specific to each park, get sworn in by a Park Ranger, and earn awards and badges for completing your adventure. This month we have had a number of summer AmeriCorps VISTA members exit their service and it is always amazing to hear about the efforts of each one of our members. Over the next few weeks, Stewards will be highlighting a few of these members and their host sites.

Our first highlight is Rachel Knearl-Wearne who served as the VISTA Summer Associate for First State National Historical Park at the John Dickinson Plantation. Her project focused on digitizing “Five Stories,” an in-person exhibit that will be physically inaccessible when the John Dickinson Plantation’s new Visitor Center opens. Rachel researched featured individuals and their descendants, rewrote exhibit text, and created infographics for the online exhibit.

The Water Lab and Utility Shop train participants in water treatment and wastewater management and set them up with industry-relevant skills in public health and safety and careers in the National Park Service and beyond.
