McDowell County is taking a big step toward a safer future with the Flood Mitigation Action Strategy, and they want to hear from you. The West Virginia Conservation Agency, Guyan Conservation District, and Tetra Tech are hosting four community meetings to gather local input on flood problem areas and potential solutions. Whether you’ve lived through recent flooding or just want to help shape the roadmap for a more resilient county, your experience is the most valuable part of this process. There are two dates and four total sessions available, so you can pick the time and location that works best for you:
Tuesday, May 5, 2026 – Welch National Guard Armory (10:00 a.m. OR 5:00 p.m.)
Thursday, May 7, 2026 – Big Creek Gymnasium in War (10:00 a.m. OR 5:00 p.m.)
If you can’t make it in person, you can still contribute by scanning the QR code on the flyer to take the survey. For more details, reach out to
