Beaufort Symphony Youth Orchestra

Beaufort Symphony Youth Orchestra In the spring of 1999, Fred Devyatkin realized a dream of forming a youth You may see some of them performing with our larger Orchestra.

The Beaufort Orchestra is not only a performing organization but also provides opportunities for young musicians to develop their talent as members of the Beaufort Youth Orchestra. The Youth Orchestra has grown to 40 plus members, many of whom donate time and talent for fundraising events sponsored by the orchestra. With the aid of Orchestra and community-based scholarships, a number of former mem

bers are continuing their musical educations. Other contributions provide funds for individual lessons and summer music camp opportunities for the next generation of orchestra musicians.

Good luck to all of our seniors, we're so proud of you!

Here's where everyone is heading next year (from left to right of the photo):

Garrett Seckinger: I will be going to Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, majoring in Aerospace Engineering and Astronautics. I plan on playing with an orchestra of a nearby community college. I’ve received numerous merit and community service based scholarships.

Kierra Thompson: I am attending UNC Greensboro for music education, with an instrumental focus. I will be a part of their orchestral ensembles. I might be going for a minor in creative writing and Arts Administration. I have earned a renewable music scholarship and the Pat Conroy scholarship.

Rostan Baisch: I am attending Georgia Tech majoring in Industrial Design, I definitely plan to audition for their orchestra! I received a scholarship from the Palmetto Quilting Guild.

Eden Engle: I will be attending Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas this fall in order to pursue a Bachelor of Music in Violin Performance at the SMU Meadows School of the Arts and possibly a minor in Medieval Studies. SMU awarded me the SMU Founders Scholarship, Meadows Scholar and Artistic Awards, Meadows Impact Scholarship Award, and the Rotunda Scholar Award - close to a full scholarship.

Maple Alvarez: I will be attending Warren Wilson College majoring in Environmental Science. I thankfully received a full tuition scholarship. I will be joining their symphony orchestra!

Kailyn Stromer: I will be attending Charleston Southern University. I am very grateful to have received numerous merit based and music scholarships. Pursuing my love for teaching, I will be majoring in Instrumental Music Education.

Special kudos to Eden for placing as assistant concertmaster in the 11-12 orchestral and Kailyn Stromer for winning the septenary award! The septenary award is for students who earned placement in all-state and region orchestra all seven years - 6th-12th grade.

These four talented musicians have shown that hard work and perseverance can lead to great success. Here's to Gabe, Kailyn, Elyse and Eden for their impressive accomplishment!
