What a wonderful way to close out the Pat Conroy Literary Festival!

Our final two events brought together friends, readers, writers, and supporters to celebrate the life, work, and lasting legacy of Pat Conroy.

From a special Open House at the Pat Conroy Literary Center to a memorable brunch at Saltus River Grill with Lynn Seldon, it was a fitting conclusion to a festival filled with stories, friendship, and a shared love of literature.

Here’s a look back at the final moments of this year’s festival. Thank you to everyone who joined us, celebrated with us, and helped make it so special!

Happy 81st Birthday, Pat Conroy!

Today, we celebrate the life, words, and extraordinary legacy of Pat Conroy, a storyteller whose voice continues to resonate with readers around the world.

Pat believed in the transformative power of stories—their ability to heal, to connect us, to challenge us, and to remind us of our shared humanity. Through his unforgettable characters, his fierce love of the Lowcountry, and his unwavering belief in the power of the written word, he gave us stories that will endure for generations.

But perhaps Pat's greatest legacy lives beyond the pages of his books. It lives in the writers he encouraged, the teachers he championed, the students he inspired, and the readers whose lives he forever changed.

At the Pat Conroy Literary Center, we are honored to carry that legacy forward, nurturing the storytellers and stories of tomorrow.

Happy birthday, Pat. Your stories live on. And your legacy continues to inspire us every day.

40 years ago today, Georgia Writers Hall of Fame icon Pat Conroy's signature novel, "The Prince of Tides" was published. It had themes adopted from Pat's own family history. It is a beautiful, haunting, and sentimental look at a high school football coach's relationship with his own wife and children, his suicidal sister, the loss of his older brother, his "do anything to survive" mother, his lost father, and his affair with an understanding therapist, all set against the low country south and New York City. One of the great American Novels of the past century.

Attending the festival on Friday? Make lunch part of the plan.

Lowcountry Produce Market and Cafe will offer box lunches on Friday, October 23 — the ALTO Wrap, Pimento Cheese Sandwich, and Roast Turkey Sandwich, $17 each. Order by 10:00 AM at eat-lcp.com, and your lunch will be waiting in the lobby of the USC-B Center for the Arts at noon.

A food truck will also be available on site Friday and Saturday.
