Did you know that Lake Sturgeon can live for more than 400 years? Imagine what the natural world was like in Michigan 400 years ago...the Saginaw Bay Watershed would have been almost entirely wetland habitat, and the flora and fauna would have been almost completely free of invasive species. Lake Sturgeon have been around for millions of years, and they would have been abundant in our Great Lakes. We are so grateful for the leadership of the Saginaw Bay Watershed Initiative Network on the Saginaw Bay Sturgeon Restoration Project, helping these incredible creatures recover and thrive as a species!

We are very pleased to announce that the SBLC has been awarded a $75,000 grant to expand and enhance our Better Branches Regional Tree Restoration program! As one of just six recipients awarded the maximum grant amount in the program, we are eager to get started planting and caring for trees throughout our region!

The Urban and Community Forestry Assistance Grant Program is made possible via the Urban and Community Forestry Program in the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Forest Service. The Michigan Department of Natural Resources awards these federally funded grants.

Wild Ones Mid-Mitten chapter is leading a movement to restore biodiversity by educating and encouraging communities to plant native plants.
