In observance of Juneteenth, the offices of the Baxley-Appling County Chamber of Commerce, Baxley-Appling County Board of Tourism, and Development Authority of Appling County will be closed on Friday, June 19.
Juneteenth marks the day when the last enslaved African Americans learned of their freedom in 1865, a significant milestone in our nation's history. It is a celebration of freedom, resilience, and the rich contributions of African Americans to our communities, culture, and country.
As we observe this day, we recognize not only the progress that has been made, but also the importance of reflecting on our shared history and how we can continue building stronger, more inclusive communities for future generations.
May we honor the past, celebrate freedom, and look toward the future with hope, understanding, and respect for one another.
Happy Juneteenth.
