October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and domestic violence affects people of every age, background and community.

ACF is proud to support organizations like Advocate Safehouse Project, a Giving Network grantee, that shows up every day for survivors with shelter, advocacy and support. Their work saves lives, and we're grateful to support it.

Advocate Safehouse Project is hosting their 4th Annual Halloween Hustle for Charity this Sunday, October 18, from 9 a.m. - 12 p.m. at Glenwood Springs Elementary School. The event features a 5K run/walk, a kids' trick-or-treat fun run, and a family fun festival, all in support of survivors. Applications are still open for ACF's Nonprofit Center of Excellence Academy (NCEA) from January 11 - 15, 2027. NCEA is a week-long intensive capacity-building experience for nonprofit executives and board leaders to learn the foundations of leading, managing and governing a nonprofit.

Raising A Reader Aspen to Parachute is hosting a Children's Art & Literacy Festival on Saturday, October 10, from 2 - 5 p.m. at the Glenwood Springs Branch Library.

Free for families with kids 8 and under, this event will be a full day of bilingual authors, art activities and face painting, Instrument Petting Zoo, Rosybelle the Art Bus, a playground theater and more.

High Country Volunteers is making it easy to give back across Garfield, Pitkin and Eagle counties. In a recent interview with Aspen Public Radio's Sage Smiley, Executive Director Mary Moon and Program Manager Laura Kay Good shared how the nonprofit, formerly High Country RSVP and serving the community for over 50 years, now welcomes volunteers of all ages and connects more than 100 local nonprofits with 1,300+ registered volunteers, all in one place.

High Country Volunteers also runs its own programs, including tax prep help and Medicare counseling, with trained counselors ready to guide seniors through open enrollment. Next up, they're building a youth volunteer program for high school students, since two-thirds of adult volunteers started young.

ACF is proud to sponsor the upcoming Women's Summit: Roots of Health event on Saturday, October 3, from 8:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. at the Glenwood Springs Library.

This free event will include conversations on women's health topics such as preventive screenings, mental health, menopause and food and nutrition. There will also be free childcare, Zumba, and yoga, so wear comfortable clothing you can move in.
