2/23 MY LEFT EYE SEES GHOSTS (2002)
After a rock-bottom drunk driving accident, a depressed widow finds that her left eye sees g-g-g-ghosts. A handsome specter is her guide through supernatural escapades in an offbeat rom-com that careens wildly from gross-out horror comedy to weepy melodrama.

2/25 COMRADES: ALMOST A LOVE STORY (1996)
Maggie Cheung charms in a gentle slice of life rom-com about two lonely friends turning to each other for companionship in the big city. A love letter to the late diaspora pop icon Teresa Teng, whose songs comfort the almost-lovers through a multi-decade situationship (ouch).

2/26 ROUGE (1987)
The ghost of a glamorous 1930s nightclub singer recruits a couple in the search for her long-lost lover, who died in a su***de pact with her. Since 2003 this doomed romance now gives an uncanny feeling; both the lead actors, Anita Mui and Leslie Cheung, tragically died young in the exact same year.

2/27 HAPPY TOGETHER (1997)
Two gay men from Hong Kong dance a toxic tango through the streets of Buenos Aires. A keystone film of New Q***r Cinema and the Cannes win that launched Wong Kar-wai into the international spotlight.

🗣️ CALLING ALL FILM LOVERS 🗣️

Wanna watch some incredible films and earn perks doing so? 👀

Each year, AAAFF has a team of passionate volunteer screeners give feedback on short & feature films to help select our final programming blocks for the festival. Screeners are invaluable and provide our film programming team with their thoughts and opinions that help guide our decision-making process and ultimately influence the official selections. 🎬

Watch and judge 3-5 hours of films every two weeks from mid-February through late April and contribute ratings and reviews for each film you watch to earn perks such as free AAVClub tix at AFS Cinema, access to special screener parties/mixers, and even fest tix and all-access badges! ✨

In it's 3rd iteration, The Popcorn List platforms films currently without wide release and recommended by film festival programmers across the United States. 🍿

Joining programmers from festivals like Tribeca, Sundance, NYFF, CAAMFest, DC/DOX, and a whole slew of other incredible film festivals, including our great friends Austin Film Festival, AAAFF's very own Neha Aziz offered her recommendation in support of Rajee Samarasinghe's excellent YOUR TOUCH MAKES OTHERS INVISIBLE (AAAFF '25 Special Jury Mention for Creative Vision).

She writes: "In Rajee Samarasinghe’s visually stunning, genre-bending debut, we are taken on a painful journey many don’t know exist. YOUR TOUCH MAKES OTHERS INVISIBLE uses a mix of haunting imagery, interviews, news clips, and re-enactments to tell us the story of the thousands upon thousands missing members of the Tamil community during the Sri Lankan Civil War which began in the 1980s and lasted for 26 years. Decades later, the families of those who vanished are still left wondering... what happened to their loved ones?"

The Austin Asian American Film Festival (AAAFF) is looking for a contract Texas-based film programmer to assist with reviewing and evaluating Short Film submissions (Narrative and Documentary) for the 2026 festival (June 24-28, 2026).

Join our team of incredibly enthusiastic film lifers and be an integral part of the 18th edition of AAAFF! We promise we'll have so much fun. 🤙

We took y'all's feedback and decided to open earlier & stay later this year, so you have from now until March 20th to get your films in front of our eager and dedicated eyes. 4 and 1/2 months of go time! 🏎️

Remember though, our Early Bird deadline (now 'til December 19th) is the absolute cheapest you'll get to submit your film, so it pays to get in early. And don't forget to check out our new submission categories like Texas Features. 🤠
