This summer we were thrilled to have two interns join us! Sarah Springer and Emma Bullerman returned to join the prairie restoration team 🌾🌻🫘🪣 Having each spent a previous summer with us (Sarah in 2024 and Emma in 2025), the duo built on their experiences and came locked and loaded with great questions and mad seed collecting skills!

Adding young people to the crew creates learning opportunities for all of us. Their curiosity about plants, prairie ecology and our restoration techniques allows us to share knowledge and skills and informs our teaching processes, all while providing students with hands-on experiences in the conservation world.

We sure miss them now! Both Emma and Sarah are students in the University of Nebraska - Lincoln’s School of Natural Resources. Sarah is slated to graduate in May ‘27 and Emma in December ’27.

Thanks, Emma and Sarah, for all your hard work this summer and for bringing fun and whimsy along the way! ✨✨✨

Carlee Moates, host of "Conservation Works" visited the Prairie Plains Resource Institute, where Conservation and Education Director Sarah Bailey and Restoration Director Mike Bullerman explain why seeds collected from Nebraska grasslands are better adapted to local soils, climate and wildlife, giving restored prairies the best chance to thrive.

Watch "Conservation Works" at 8pm CT on Thursdays on Nebraska Public Media or the PBS app.
