We live here now with all the pain and glory of our homeland within us.
Hope beats within our hearts.
Taliban silenced us but it can never destroy the spirit of Brave Afghan women
- Zahra Karimi from ‘Route 15’

Zahra is inspired by the stories of more than 200 women who have attended our ‘Sew & Sing’ program in the last 3 years. A hope remains to reunite with their loved ones one day but for now each one of them is grateful for the freedom to learn and speak.

Last week we started the 9th cycle of Sew & Sing!

A program that started spring of 2023 has made a positive impact for more than 200 refugee women. Several among them today pursue an education or a career, both of which are denied to them in their country of origin.

We are excited to continue this worthy project that offers opportunity to practice spoken English, wellbeing through movement and learning to sew. But more than that, it offers a community and connection.

What a great Honor and Pleasure!

In 2018, when Roshni was just starting you believed in Us and how Art can Heal and Unite us all.

Thank you for the ‘Song of the Birds’ that reminds us all to Hope for Peace, in our Hearts , Communities, Nations and the World.

Our Heartfelt Gratitude and a Hope that someday we can once again bring your Music to the people of E. Colfax.

- Crow wait, please don’t go. We’re sorry
- The truth is that your voice wasn’t hideous
- Neither are your black and stubby feathers
- You are different and that scared us
- You belong here just as much as we do
- We may be beautiful but you brought us all back
together. You should be the Queen

- Oh I don’t want to be Queen, all I want are friends
I can laugh and dance with
- I think we can manage that, dear Crow

And so ended on a High Note, ‘The Queen’ our school touring show.

Looking back…

Seeing the kids get so excited and impressed is deeply moving. I feel blessed to bring this play to children with the message of Unity
- Tara aka the Hummingbird

To become a bird was magical and liberating. Being a male in a play called ‘Queen’ made me step out of my comfort zone and put down preconceived notions about gender roles and norms. It also made me feel more in touch with my beautiful and majestic side as a human being.
- (Ben) aka the 🦚

As a child, my favorite experiences were always centered around Art. They shaped my life and my values. The Queen is a powerful story that conveys the important messages of acceptance, friendship, kindness, leadership.
Witnessing children’s faces light up with delight and feeling their excitement and the impact of the story, I feel very fulfilled as an artist.

- (Ana) aka the 🦢

How wondrous it is to be able to dance, act and touch in some way every child and adult who saw the show. A blessing I’m deeply grateful to work with such wonderful and talented artists who are also dear friends.
-

Thank you for helping us bring this show to so many schools. And we ain’t done yet.
Until then,

Howdy, What’s up, Privet, Namaste 🙏

11 May, 2019
Paola stands gazing at the sea of faces looking at her expectantly, including her family. Flanked by 6 more performers, Paola is part nervous part excited for
her first play that she co-wrote with her peers.
She’s only 10 years old and this is the first
‘Step into the Light’ event.

They commence performing, and despite no mics, their voice hold strong and steady, eliciting laughter.
At the end, there is thunderous applause.
Paola and friends, gently take a bow.

It takes courage to perform in front of an audience, even more so in a language, not your own.
Yet Paola and 800+ youth over the last 8 years have proven that when given the right support, every child specially those underserved can Speak Up!

New American stories is our longest running youth program that started in 2018 with 2 groups.
8 years later, this program continues to offer underserved youth a space for creative expression and to just BE.

Because we know Joy and Creativity are two Powerful catalysts for Greatness.

Thank you to and all the instructors through the years that have been a part of this program.
