Along with the State Fair, Colorado Department of Agriculture and Governor Polis — this year we reimagined a food truck competition into a longer table for this year’s Governor’s Harvest Table at Colorado’s 154th fair.

Not that there’s anything wrong with a little competition - but our over 200 guests loved connecting and sharing their stories.

As one of over 150 tables being set across Colorado this year, the Governor’s Table is a vivid symbol and invitation to every Coloradan: you have a place at the table and you belong.

Imagine a Colorado where everyone feels like they belong! This is the power of food and the table.

It turns out caring for others makes everyone happier, including you.

Of over 97,000 people across 66 countries surveyed, collective well-being depends on building supportive communities, not pursuing your own personal joy.

The evidence suggests that societies that foster environments that care for others boost a nation’s overall happiness.

The researchers identified five categories that drive overall societal happiness, including satisfying basic human needs, effective governing and security, and close in-group ties.

What makes a society truly happy? New research in The Journal of Positive Psychology suggests that supportive, inclusive environments boost national well-being significantly more than individualistic pursuits.

Pull up a seat at the Governor’s Table. 🌾

On September 1, Governor Jared Polis and Longer Tables are inviting Coloradans to gather at one long table at the Colorado State Fair—sharing a meal made with Colorado Proud ingredients, swapping stories, and celebrating the farmers, ranchers, producers, chefs, and communities who nourish our state.

As Colorado celebrates its 150th birthday, this table will remind us that a flourishing Colorado begins when we pull up a chair and make room for one another.

"I look forward to the Governor’s Plate as a celebration of Colorado’s world-class agriculture and talented chefs. This year, we’re building on that tradition for our 150th anniversary as a state with the Governor’s Table, because good food is even better when it’s shared. I’m excited to welcome Coloradans to the State Fair on September 1st to share a plate, swap stories, and celebrate the connections, people, and food that make our state so special,” said Governor Jared Polis.

With Mount Sopris standing near, the Town of Carbondale came together last night as 1 of 150 tables being set across Colorado. Chili, watermelon salad, peach pie, a flash mob, a country band and singers celebrated “Our Town, One Table with conversation, laughter and the signature warmth of a town centered on enjoying life together.
