Nine years ago, we lost Elijah.

But if you knew him, you knew there was nothing “lost” about his spirit, it’s everywhere in this foundation.

One of the bravest, strongest kids you could ever meet. A friend who showed up for people. A kid who made you want to know what made him tick.

If he could see this foundation today, his name still opening doors, still changing lives, still making kids feel brave when they need it most, we think he’d just grin that grin of his and say, “This is exactly what should’ve happened.”

This September, we’re sharing who Elijah is, the boy that inspired Elijah’s Heart House.

Meet Elijah♥️
He was 16, the youngest of four, and the heartbeat of the Auxier family. He played basketball as a point guard and loved cheering on the Blazers, and he was happiest out on the hazelnut farm or playing at the ranch.

After a five-year battle with a rare heart condition, the family said goodbye to him in 2017, but his courage and faith are the reason this foundation exists.

A follow up biopsy. A 12+ hour drive. A family showing up for their sweet one year old daughter, AGAIN!

Elijah’s Heart House is honored to help carry some of that weight.

This family traveled back to Houston, from Alabama, for a required follow-up biopsy following their daughter’s liver transplant at Texas Children’s Hospital. Trips like this, especially repeated trips, come with a real financial strain, lodging, travel, time away from work and home.

Elijahs’s Heart House was able to provide lodging reimbursement to help ease that burden, continuing our commitment to walking alongside transplant families for the long haul.

We are grateful to partner with dedicated transplant social workers who help connect families with the support they need.

Sometimes “unexpected” is the only word big enough.

This summer, a family from Maryland found themselves far from home after their one-year-old needed emergency heart care in Philadelphia. Their hospital social worker called Ronald McDonald House and unfortunately, no rooms available.

That’s the very moment Elijah’s Heart House exists for.

We stepped in to cover their housing so Mom and Dad could stay exactly where they needed to be, right by Anthony’s bedside.

We received this message shortly after:
“I can’t thank you enough. Everything helps when something happens unexpectedly. Here is a sweet pic of our little guy who is very grateful for people like you all ❤️”

And friends, that’s the whole mission in one text.
