The Life Flight Network Foundation's end-of-year giving campaign is in full swing and we humbly ask for your support as we work to fulfill our mission of saving lives.

Donations from our community directly contribute to our operations—be it purchasing a new neonatal isolette, outfitting a helicopter with an ICU-medical interior, or sending our employees to advanced training—every dollar you give makes a difference.

Heather knows just how vital your support can be—her life is a testament to the difference you make.

“I didn’t know what was wrong with me.”

It was the fall 2022 and Heather started to feel sick. At first, it was minor shortness of breath, but as time passed, her symptoms worsened. “I wasn’t sure what was going on, but I also didn’t think it was anything serious.” After collapsing at home and being too weak to get up, she realized it was time to go the emergency room. Heather’s family called 911, and Kittitas Valley Fire & Rescue transported her to Kittitas Valley Healthcare where she stayed overnight.

“They were able to keep me comfortable, and I felt a little better, more stable.” But when her care team returned with her labs and CT scan results, they told a very different story.

Heather was experiencing respiratory and heart failure due to blood clots in both of her lungs and needed to be transferred to another hospital for emergency surgery. Due to the critical nature of her illness, Life Flight Network was requested to provide ICU-level care and rapid transport to Confluence Health in Wenatchee, Washington.

After a smooth, 17-minute flight, Heather arrived at Confluence Health where she underwent an emergency pulmonary thrombectomy that saved her life. “The crew was amazing; they did everything they could to keep me comfortable during the ride."

Seven months post-surgery, Heather has made a full recovery. We are happy to report that she is back to being active with her family and has returned to caring for her community as a licensed practical nurse. “My heart has returned to its normal size and function. I will be on blood thinners for the rest of my life, but I am alive. Thank you, Life Flight Network.”

Exciting innovations in patient care are happening over here!

Check out our latest news at the link below.

A big thank you goes out to Spectrum Aeromed for helping us achieve this incredible, first-of-its-kind air medical advancement.

"Life Flight Network intends to outfit its entire fleet of Pilatus PC-12s with liquid oxygen in the coming years; yet another example of the not-for-profit's continued reinvestment in its fleet, staff, and community. Retrofitting the entire fleet will be costly and the organization warmly welcomes community support through the Life Flight Network Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit established in 2009 to provide critical financial support to their mission services."

*SURVIVAL STORY*

Perry is a 71-year-old avid cyclist, residing in Hood River, Oregon. Whether on the road or the trails, enjoying the beautiful outdoors from his bike is Perry’s happy place.

On the afternoon of July 2, 2022, Perry opted for his road bike and set out to enjoy his ride. It was a beautiful, sunny Saturday with a light breeze—a perfect day to ride. “I normally push myself on my rides, to see if I can beat my last time, but that afternoon, I decided to enjoy a nice relaxing ride up to the Mosier Tunnels.” He was two miles into his ride when disaster struck. Another cyclist had cut a blind corner and struck him head-on, sending Perry flying.

When Perry regained consciousness, he found himself in an ambulance. He could hear people talking and moving quickly to pull him out of the ambulance on the stretcher. It was then he heard the helicopter. He saw the rotor blades spinning and the concerned expressions on the faces of those looking down at him. “I could tell things were serious, but the flight crew gave me a sense of calm. It was like they were telling me with their eyes that they would do anything to keep me alive.”

Perry’s injuries were significant, and he was transported to Legacy Emanuel Medical Center in Portland, Oregon, for treatment. Suffering seven broken ribs, a tension pneumothorax, a fractured skull, a fractured scapula, and a major concussion, Perry spent three days in the intensive care unit before being discharged to continue his recovery at home. And in true love’s fashion, he was back on his bike just eight weeks after the accident.

“Life Flight Network was the best part of my experience. I truly felt like I was being rescued by angels from the sky.”

When you donate to the Life Flight Network Foundation, you're contributing to the survival of patients like Perry. Every gift we receive is invested back into our organization, funding the purchase of lifesaving medical and transport equipment and advanced training for our staff, so when the next call comes, we have everything we need to deliver the very best in pre-hospital emergency medical care.
