Salvation Army seeks volunteers as demand for food and housing assistance rises in Augusta

The Salvation Army of Augusta is preparing to launch its annual Red Kettle Campaign on Nov. 2, calling on community members to volunteer as bell ringers to help support local families facing financial hardship.

The campaign comes as the organization reports a 41% increase in meals served through its Center of Hope soup kitchen compared with the previous year.

The Center of Hope currently provides approximately 200 meals daily, while the organization has helped more than 500 people move into stable housing over the past four years. It also provided shelter for 114 children in 2026.

Donations collected through the Red Kettle Campaign in Augusta remain in the local community, helping fund emergency shelter, meals, eviction prevention and other essential services.

Bell ringing will begin at Hobby Lobby and Bass Pro Shops on Nov. 2, with additional locations opening later in November at Kroger, Belk, Food Lion, Walmart and Sam's Club.

Volunteers can choose their preferred dates, times and locations by registering at ringforhope.org.

The Salvation Army is also hiring approximately 70 paid bell ringers. A hiring fair will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 2, at the Kroc Center, 1833 Broad St. in Augusta.
