This summer, we partnered with Christ Central New Ellenton for the community’s first Summer Harvest distribution, helping families with children access fresh food during the summer months.

Led by Kimberly Williams, Mayor of New Ellenton and Director of Christ Central New Ellenton, the distribution built on an already strong partnership between Christ Central and Golden Harvest. Throughout the year, Christ Central helps meet the needs of neighbors through monthly pantry distributions, senior food box days, fresh produce deliveries, and emergency food assistance during the week.

“Today, we are serving our community by giving out food and vegetables, mainly for the ones that have kids,” Williams shared.

Christ Central also continues to expand access to fresh fruits and vegetables across Aiken County. Williams is helping lead the Aiken County Farmers Market voucher program, which will provide more than 300 vouchers at sites in Wagener, Graniteville, New Ellenton, and Aiken.

Together, Golden Harvest and partners like Christ Central New Ellenton are helping ensure that children, families, and seniors have access to the nourishing food they need, not just during the school year, but all summer long.

Another successful Wellstar Mobile Market brought fresh, healthy food directly to neighbors in our community!

Access to nutritious food can make a meaningful difference for families, helping stretch grocery budgets and supporting healthier meals at home. We are grateful for our partnership with Wellstar and Augusta Locally Grown, whose shared commitment helps bring healthy food closer to the people who need it.

Together, we are meeting neighbors where they are and working toward a stronger, healthier community.

Today is World Hunger Day, and our team answered a few simple questions: Why does this work matter to you? What keeps you going? What moments remind you why you’re here?

Their answers were a powerful reminder that behind every meal shared, every box packed, every delivery made, every conversation, and every act of service, there is a “why.”
Every day, our team shows up with compassion, dedication, and hope for neighbors across our community. Today, we are especially grateful for the people who help carry this mission forward and make this work possible.

Happy World Hunger Day from all of us at Golden Harvest Food Bank.

Yesterday, Golden Harvest Food Bank hosted our first legislative roundtable at our Aiken Campus, bringing together local elected officials and state representatives from Aiken and surrounding communities for a meaningful conversation about hunger in our region.

Together, we discussed the realities our neighbors are facing, the challenges impacting local food access, and the practical solutions we can build through continued partnership. Most importantly, we centered the conversation on the people behind the numbers: children, families, seniors, and individuals who deserve consistent access to healthy food.

We are grateful to every leader who joined us, listened, shared perspective, and committed to keeping our neighbors at the forefront of local and state conversations about food insecurity.

When we work together, we can move closer to a healthier, hunger-free tomorrow for every community we serve.

For more than 20 years, Vineyard Church of Augusta’s food pantry has welcomed families with food, care, and compassion.

Today, that care is especially clear in the way children are served. From familiar snacks to a kids table with books and toys, every detail helps young guests feel seen and valued while their families shop.

“We use food as a vehicle, not the product,” Patty shared. “The product is the love of God.”

Through every meal, smile, and small act of kindness, Vineyard reminds families they are not alone.

When Carrie arrived at Faith Outreach for a Summer Harvest distribution, she was carrying more than an empty pantry. She was carrying the stress of a recent move, delayed SNAP benefits, job loss, and the reality of feeding a household of five.

Carrie is a single mother with four children at home, ranging in age from 10 to 21. Like many families, summer brings added pressure. When children are out of school, the meals they would normally receive during the school day shift back to the household. But as Carrie explained, grocery benefits do not increase just because school is out.

“Food stamps don’t increase just because they’re out of school,” she said. “And with how high groceries are in the store, it doesn’t last. You try to stretch it, but it doesn’t last.”

For Carrie, Faith Outreach has become more than a place to receive food. It is a place where her family is seen and supported. She visits often and said the team makes a difficult season feel a little lighter.

“The staff is warm, loving, friendly,” Carrie said. “They listen to you. They hear your concerns.”

Along with food, Faith Outreach has helped Carrie’s family with clothing, personal hygiene items, school needs, and other essentials that can quickly become out of reach when money is tight.

Golden Harvest’s Summer Harvest program is designed to help ease the added strain families face when school meals are no longer available. Through hunger relief partners like Faith Outreach, families can receive food during the summer months, helping parents and caregivers stretch their grocery budgets and keep children nourished.

For Carrie, that support came at exactly the right time.

“I’m thankful,” she said, “because it does help.”

As she left the distribution, Carrie had one simple message for the people helping make Summer Harvest possible: “Keep up the good work. We do appreciate it.”

We are grateful for partners like Faith Outreach who help make Summer Harvest possible. Your support helps ensure families like Carrie’s have access to food and care throughout the summer months. Every $2 helps provide 5 meals for neighbors in need. Visit https://virtualdrive.goldenharvest.org/give/415954/ #!/donation/checkout to give today.

Last week, our Summer Harvest Program stopped at Faith Outreach Church, where families with children 17 and under received boxes filled with fresh produce, protein, pantry staples, and more.

For Kimberly Gould and the Faith Outreach team, this distribution was about more than handing out food. It was about making sure every neighbor who came through felt welcomed, cared for, and supported.

Faith Outreach Church, under the leadership of Pastor Richard and Janice Peoples, opened its campus, organized volunteers, cleared space for trucks, managed the flow of cars, and worked alongside partners like Georgia Federation of Women, Golden Harvest, and church members who serve through the pantry each week.

Partnerships like this are what make Summer Harvest possible. When school is out for the summer, many families lose access to the meals their children count on during the school year. Through the support of local partners, Summer Harvest helps bring healthy food closer to families right when they need it most.

“We’re honored and we’re blessed that we get to serve the community,” Kimberly said.

We are grateful for partners like Faith Outreach who help make Summer Harvest a meaningful source of support for families with children during the summer months.

Golden Harvest Food Bank is facing one of the most significant supply challenges in our organization’s history.

Food received through The Emergency Food Assistance Program has decreased by nearly 40%, while donated food from retailers and community food drives has declined 27%. At the same time, more neighbors across our region are turning to our network of hunger relief partners for support.

To help keep food moving across our 24-county service area, Golden Harvest has increased food purchasing by more than 200%. But this is not a challenge we can meet alone.

Right now, our community can make a meaningful difference in three ways:

• Give at goldenharvest.org
• Volunteer at one of our campuses or programs
• Host a food drive with your workplace, school, church, neighborhood, or organization

Every gift, every hour served, and every bag of food collected helps make room at the table for neighbors who need support right now.

Donations can be dropped off at the following locations from 8:00 AM – noon or 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM. We are closed for lunch from noon – 1:00 PM.
