The Mission of the garden is to grow and maintain a successful communal and community garden to benefit health and wellness, develop social connections, provide multiple educational opportunities, and increase interest in protecting the environment. The Purpose of the gard
en is to provide the community with access to grow and receive fresh local produce. The Augusta Community Garden Organization was incorporated as a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization for the purpose of providing relief to the poor, instructing the public on horticultural subjects and its lifestyle benefits, and promoting cultural and community connections. In furtherance of these purposes the specific actions and objectives of the Corporation shall be:
Grow and donate 75% of harvested produce from the communal garden to other local 501(c)(3) non-profit organizations providing relief for the poor who lack access to affordable produce
Provide education to the public with age-appropriate hands-on and project-based learning in all horticulture practices, including preparation and preservation. Communicate garden activities and updates, provide access and links to articles, learning materials, and supportive resources through the use of social media, the local newspaper, and a maintained website
Created a dedicated garden space that is available for schools to use should they choose to include gardening in their curriculum
Establish dedicated gardening spaces for the public with accommodations for the disabled and elderly populations
Plan and implement opportunities for youth who demonstrate leadership, citizenship, volunteering, and environmental stewardship to be awarded and recognized for their efforts. Create gardening activities and social events to gain public interest and increase levels of support and involvement in gardening. Garden Design and Layout:
