Butler County Kansas Animal Response Team and Butler County Kansas CERT Contact Butler County Emergency Management, 316-733-9796, 8 am to 5 pm, Monday-Friday. BuCART members can not respond to wildlife situations.

The Butler County Animal Response Team (BuCART) helps ensure the safety, survival and welfare of any animal affected by natural and man-made disasters in our area. BuCART and CERT members are dedicated to educating the general public on disaster preparedness. They recognize that preparedness is the key to minimizing the effects of disasters for both people and their pets. BuCART and CERT volunteer

s are deployed by Butler County Emergency Management in natural or man-made disasters to establish emergency pet shelters for pets displaced by the disaster and provide other disaster support services as directed by Emergency Management, including traffic control, damage assessments, staff volunteer reception centers, radio support, and other duties as assigned. BuCART volunteers are also trained in large animal rescue and have the equipment to assist with large animal rescues. September 5 is International Day of Charity to raise public awareness about philanthropy and encourage people to help others through volunteering.

Butler County, Kansas Emergency Management's volunteers on the Butler County Kansas Animal Response Team and Butler County Kansas Community Emergency Response Team donate hundreds of hours of their time to train, share disaster preparedness information through community outreach, public service, supporting the Emergency Operations Center during severe weather and disaster activations, plus respond and assist residents before, during and after disasters.

Volunteering to share your time and expertise in helping your community is one way to give.

Today we'll introduce you to Butler County Emergency Management's Butler County Community Emergency Response Team (CERT). Trained CERT volunteers support Butler County residents before, during and after disasters.

CERT volunteers are required to complete the 20 hour CERT Basic Class. Registration is open for the October 16-18 class. Sign up at: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/OCT2026_CERT

Butler County Emergency Management's volunteer teams, BuCART and CERT, meet the first Thursday of the month, January through November, 7 pm, Augusta Safety Department Training Room, 2100 N. Ohio, Augusta. Citizens interested in learning more about becoming an Emergency Management volunteer are welcome to attend. NOTE: September's meeting starts at 6:30 pm.
