Friday at 7pm: Worship and Teaching
Saturday at 10:30am: Worship and Torah Study
Our study in Numbers this week includes the rebellion of Korah and his companions. Desiring more than what was given him and expected of him, Korah assembled two hundred and fifty men to rise up against Aaron and Moses. But Yahveh made clear His acceptance of Moses and Aaron and not of the rebellion. An earthquake swallowed up Dathan and Aviram’s tents, and fire from Yahveh consumed the two hundred and fifty offering strange incense.
Afterward, Yahveh again proved His choice of Aaron for the priesthood with the budding staff. Not only did Aaron’s dead staff miraculously bud, but it also blossomed and bore ripe almonds. In conclusion, Yahveh reaffirms His provision for the Levites and the priesthood through the offerings and first fruits of all the congregation. Unlike the rest of the tribes who had an inheritance of land and property within the promised land, Yahveh gives Himself as the inheritance and portion for the priesthood.
And like the testimony of Moses within the Torah chapters, who declared he had taken nothing from the people, Samuel testified to Israel as he presented news of the king they asked for. He gives them strong warning to pursue and follow Yahveh and not rebel.
In Romans, Paul writes to his audience regarding subjection to governing authorities. Like the establishment of the priesthood, Yahveh uses institutions for His works, bringing order, stability, and care amidst a world that would often choose sin, evil, and chaos.
