Friends of Valley Playland

Friends of Valley Playland Almost 30 years ago, a very dedicated group of community volunteers constructed the Valley
Playland.

It has served the families of the Valley well, but it needed some attention to improve safety & handicap/ADA access. In March 2016, Futurescapes, a Valley-based nonprofit community organization, offered to work with Athens Borough to rebuild the Valley Playland and a partnership was agreed upon. Originally it was thought that we would be doing some inquiries, and would be looking at the next year

as a possible start date to rebuild. Then members of Futurescapes became aware of monies available through “ The Bradford County Impact Fee Grant Program”, so we jump started the process and began moving forward! Athens Borough hired Play by Design out of Ithaca, an expert in playground projects. They met with members of Futurescapes, and inspected the existing playground equipment, and ultimately decided that we needed to dismantle the old playground and build a new one to meet safety requirements. We applied for and received a large grant from DCNR, and have worked very hard the past few years to raise matching funds. The new Valley Playland was built in one week by over 500 community volunteers giving over 5,500 hours of service from May 19-24, 2021. It was an amazing community effort and the results can be seen in photos and videos on this page. The Grand Opening of the new playground was held in June 19, 2021, and it is now open every day from dawn to dusk.

SAYRE — Local volunteers in Sayre are lined up to bring a new playground for the borough with a focus on inclusivity and fun.

Someone recently asked about the status of the zip line, and we accidentally deleted the comment. After checking with the borough manager, he assured us that the part has been ordered and it will be repaired as soon as it comes in.
