Preserving voices and memories of experiences and past events is an important way to make connections to our history. Members of the Ashford Historical Society are training with UConn history professor Fiona Vernal to record oral histories with the aid of 𝘛𝘩𝘦𝘪𝘳𝘚𝘵𝘰𝘳𝘺, a new online platform.⁣
⁣
We are anticipating this resource will help us document our town’s heritage and are seeking participants to share their story with this free program. Anyone with community ties is eligible.⁣
Please email 𝘢𝘴𝘩𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘥𝘩𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘰𝘳𝘪𝘤𝘢𝘭𝘴𝘰𝘤𝘪𝘦𝘵𝘺@𝘨𝘮𝘢𝘪𝘭.𝘤𝘰𝘮 for details.⁣

Did you know?
Betsy Ross is typically credited with creating the first American Flag, however many historians believe that it was actually Francis Hopkinson who designed the first flag in 1776.

Does anyone know what the pattern of the first flag looked like, or were there multiple iterations? I'm seeing stars in a 4-5-4 pattern and in a circle pattern.

𝓗𝓪𝓹𝓹𝔂 250𝓽𝓱 𝓑𝓲𝓻𝓽𝓱𝓭𝓪𝔂 𝓐𝓶𝓮𝓻𝓲𝓬𝓪! 🇺🇸 2026 marks the 250th year of America’s independence from Great Britain. On July 2, 1776, the Lee Resolution was the formal motion that declared the original 13 colonies (Virginia, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Connecticut, Maryland, Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, Delaware, North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia) free and independent states. Over the next 183 years, states were added until the last (Hawaii) was added in August of 1959.
