Even though we got absolutely thunderstormed out of this hike, we had a blast exploring the woods together before the storm with community members and friends of Southside Community Farm, Asheville and WNC AAPI

These photos feel like forever ago and we definitely have a backlog of photos from previous events. Stay tuned for an updated calendar of upcoming events with WNC AAPI and our community friends! We’ve got a couple more BIPOC hikes in the mix, as well as pear picking, potluck, BIPOC markets, a fundraiser party, and more!

Don’t miss the BIPOC Arts & Roots Party this Saturday Aug 22 1-5pm at Ben’s Tune-Up Tiger Bay Cafe 🎉

This event is a fundraiser party supporting Southside Community Farm & Caravan Art Bazaar. Several community members of WNC AAPI are part of or volunteer for one or both of these organizations ✌🏽

Art, face painting, farm goods, raffle prizes, Caribbean and Asian fusion food, locally brewed sake, apothecary, BIPOC-authored books, crafts, and live music performances by Ronnie Cruz and 🌀 a l i n a 🌀

WNC AAPI & Caravan Art Bazaar invite you to join us for a group hike in Pisgah National Forest.

Our hope with BIPOC hikes is to empower people of color to explore the outdoors in the WNC region. We share knowledge of our favorite hikes and enjoy the community and safety that we find together. If you’ve ever felt discomfort hiking alone, join us! We particularly hope to provide BIPOC women and LBGTQ+ folks with the opportunity to meet and form hiking friends and groups while exploring the outdoors! All ages and genders are welcome.

Who is this event for?
This event is intended for BIPOC nature fans, and Family & Friends of WNC AAPI & Caravan Art Bazaar.
Sign-up required.

We’ll be taking a short hike along a curated trail until we reach the water. From there, we’ll explore the cold mountain streams along the rocks. We’re not hiking for distance, we’re hiking to experience nature and all its glorious nuance.

This site was heavily hit by landslides during and after Hurricane Helene, so much of the water portion of the hike requires some light scrambling and rock balancing, or finding easier ways around the obstacles. It can be as easy or as challenging as you want! You almost never have to go in the water, unless you want to.

We plan to take a break to doodle and sketch or just relax and snack. Caravan Art Bazaar will have extra paper and drawing tools to anyone that needs it.

What to bring -
Plenty of swimming holes can be found, so bring a swim suit if you want to take a dip! Footwear with good grip & balance. Sketchbook, Camera, Binoculars, anything else you wanna play with. Snacks for just yourself, or to share with the group, and drinking water!

Date + Time+ Location
Monday July 27th
11:00am meetup
Blue Ridge Parkway - Pisgah region
(details emailed upon signup)

All attendees at events created by, or in collaboration with WNC AAPI are asked to act in accordance of our Community Values & Participation Agreements.

Thanks to all who joined our mutual aid potluck! Always so great to be in community together - and good food always makes every experience even better!
🌺
We took this opportunity to share more about the WNC AAPI Community Mutual Aid Program, which has already helped two of our community members this year who were in need of emergency medical attention. Our mutual aid fund is mainly built to assist folks with emergencies, because “life is too heavy to handle solo.”

During our potluck we asked guests to write some thoughts on the board, answering two questions -
🌺
What does community mean to you?
What does mutual aid mean to you?

Feel free to let us know your answers in the comments!
Here’s the answers on the board at our potluck.

Community member Mary Bulan and family from Little Farm - Black Mountain brought some flowers to give away after our meal, and jumped on the opportunity to collaborate with WNC AAPI on an upcoming event on Sunday July 26th!

Please join us for a U-Pick Flower day at Little Farm - Black Mountain with 50% of proceeds donated to the WNC AAPI Mutual Aid Program.

AAPI Month Potluck! We’re hosting a potluck event for our community, family, and friends to help celebrate AAPI Month ✊🏽

We’ll be outdoors at a local park in Asheville and plan to gather rain or shine under a covered pavilion at the park

Please bring a dish to share, along with serving utensils and your own plates, reusable mug/silverware, etc. to eat with. Emphasis on reusable!

Please refrain from bringing single use, plastic items. Consider bringing silverware from home that you can wash. Chop sticks, forks, spoons, camping bowls/plates. Reusable mugs are also handy at our potlucks since some folks bring drinks that require serving cups. Generally consider things you can wash instead of throwing away ✌🏽

We will have bins for compost, recycling, and trash.

Exact location will be emailed to participants by Friday May 29.

Sunday May 31st
12pm-3pm

Come hang out at Master BBQ Monday March 30th 5-7pm at Zillicoah Beer Co.
