Your calendar is circled; your schedule is set, you have your Sunday best picked out — Back to Church Sunday is coming September 20th.
Good news: you don't have to wait. Come try us out at AUC in advance on Sept. 6th and/or 13th. We've got room up front for those ready to dive in, and pews in the back for anyone who'd rather stay low-key and shady dip if needed — no pressure, no judgment.
We'd love to see you at Ascutney Union Church — but reconnecting with a church from your past, or visiting a faith that's caught your interest, works just fine too.

Finding Faith: Dolly Parton's Quiet Devotion
Long before Dolly Parton became a global music icon filling giant stadiums, she was a little girl in Locust Ridge, Tennessee, singing gospel hymns on the wooden porch of her family's cabin and in her grandfather’s tiny mountain church. Faith wasn't a performance for her — it was the harmony she grew up in, and it never left. She carried that quiet faith into a career spent conquering the music industry on her own terms, and into a personal life she always anchored in prayer. Millions knew her dazzling stage presence, sequined outfits, and legendary pop culture footprint, but few saw the private moments where she quietly read her Bible, prayed for guidance, and funded community literacy programs out of a deep Christian love for her neighbors. Fans and friends who knew her heart often saw a woman who was steady, humble, and deeply devoted.Should you have faith because Dolly Parton did? No. But her story might make you curious enough to ask why a woman with the entire world cheering for her chose, every single day, to thank God for the music and her gifts. Sometimes the most important journey begins with a simple question.

Ever thought about reading the whole Bible cover to cover? It's a great goal — but let's be real, it's not exactly a light undertaking.

That's where The Bible in a Year with Father Mike Schmitz can help. This isn't some small religious podcast — it's consistently ranked among the most-downloaded podcasts in the world, period, across every category. Each episode runs about 20 minutes of Scripture reading followed by 10 minutes of context and reflection, so you're not just hearing the words — you're actually understanding them. A few Catholic-specific notes show up here and there, but they're easy to spot and simple to take or leave.

It's free, available on every major podcast app, and runs a full year — but you can jump in whenever you're ready and go at your own pace listening to episodes as you have time.

Finding Faith: Katherine Johnson's Quiet Devotion

Long before Katherine Johnson calculated the trajectories that sent American astronauts into orbit, she was a little girl in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia, walking the exact number of steps from her house to church every week. Faith wasn't a phase for her — it was the rhythm she grew up in, and it never left.

She carried that rhythm into a career spent proving her brilliance in rooms that doubted her, and into a church pew she never gave up — serving for over 50 years at Carver Memorial Presbyterian in Newport News, eventually leading its finance committee. Colleagues who worked beside her for years often had no idea she'd helped put men on the moon. They just knew her as steady, humble, and faithful.

Should you have faith because Katherine Johnson did? No. But her story might make you curious enough to ask why a woman capable of anything chose, every single week, to sit in that same pew. Sometimes the most important journey begins with a simple question.

Be transformed, not conformed.
Romans 12:2 reminds us not to simply follow the ways of the world, but to let God transform us from the inside out. As our minds and hearts are renewed, we begin to see God’s will more clearly and discover what is good, pleasing, and right.
