It's easy to dispose of unwanted paint in Vermont. Thanks to a law that passed about eleven years ago, we have a statewide program called PaintCare that manages it properly. In our area, you can bring liquid paint (latex and oil-based) to Bibens Home Center and Sherwin Williams in Springfield, Aubuchon's in Ludlow and Windsor, and our beautiful HHW Depot in season. It's FREE, but the retailers only want labeled, non-leaky, non-rusty cans. When the Depot reopens for the season in May 2026, we will take all of it - and we have seen cans that are decades old.

Please do NOT dry it out; 76% of the latex paint collected in Vermont last year was re-blended for resale.

In this season of giving, consider bringing old paint to one of the retailers (up to five gallons per visit due to space restrictions); maybe you'll find some Christmas gifts while you're there.

WHEN YOU THROW SOMETHING AWAY, WHERE IS "AWAY"? The Semi-Annual Windsor Great Give-Away!!!

Saturday, October 1st from 8am to 4pm

Are you going to Windsor Dump Day on October 8th? Will you throw away items that are in good shape and could be useful to someone else, with a bit of cleaning or minor repair? Put them at the edge of your driveway or lawn on 10/1 and offer them to someone who could use them. If they don't disappear, take them to Dump Day or, better yet, take them to the LISTEN Thrift Store, SEVCA Good Buy Store, COVER Store, or any other local second-hand stores.

Please clean up your items by Sunday evening. Thanks. Email [email protected] with questions.

No more 4-hour Household Hazardous Waste Collections?

Nope! And no more waiting in long lines. Instead, we have opened a seasonal HHW Depot to offer a more convenient way to dispose of bathroom cleaners, nail polish remover, paint, insecticides, chemical fertilizers, gasoline, etc.

We are open Tuesday and Thursday mornings (we can't find any weekend help at present) and closing at the end of September. Call Mary O'Brien at 802-674-9235 for an appointment and directions to the Depot.

· SWWCSWMD residents only

· $10/car for up to 10 gallons of HHW (no charge for paint)

· Visit www.swwcswmd.org for a list of what we take and what we don’t.

Our contractor may not have the capacity to accept as much paint as usually shows up at our household hazardous waste collections. So, we've been asked to institute a limit of 10 gallons of paint per vehicle on Tuesday, September 21.
