On Monday, came to the Well Rooted office for their Professional Development Day!

Our Co-Founder, Katie Casey, shared the story of Well Rooted, why we started, and more about who we serve. Two of our young adults aging out of foster care were also gracious enough to share their personal experiences and the challenges they’ve faced. Their stories gave the DC team a deeper understanding of the realities of foster care and how they can better support and serve their students.

This was particularly special to us because both Well Rooted co-founders are DC graduates! It was so meaningful to welcome the school that played a part in our own journeys into the space we’ve created to support others.

After visiting our office, they went back to the school to make individual meals for our Young Adults. These will be dispersed at our next Young Adults Monthly Dinner.

We need your help!

We’re looking for recommendations for a psychiatrist who accepts Medicaid and can provide medication management for a couple of our Young Adults aging out of foster care.

We know wait times can be especially long for those with Medicaid, and we’re hoping our community can help us find a provider who may have availability or a connection to someone who does.

If you know a psychiatrist who accepts Medicaid, please send us a message! Even a name or connection could make a huge difference.

When we all work together, we can help make sure our Young Adults aren’t left waiting for the care they need.

This apartment is a beautiful example of what’s possible when a community comes together.

Through our partnership with , we were able to furnish this apartment and help turn it into a place that feels like home. And with the help of her hands-on mentor, every detail was thoughtfully put together to make sure she had what she needed to feel supported, and proud of a space where she can care for her son.

Young adults aging out of foster care shouldn’t have to figure everything out alone.

When organizations, mentors, donors, and community members each do their part, we can surround these young adults with the support they deserve.

Sarah here…

A funny thing happened tonight that I thought I would share..

Well Rooted has changed our lives in so many profound ways but tonight I realized this change has seeped into even the mundane and ordinary.

A cup of decaf coffee at night has become a comfort.

We always serve decaf for our monthly support groups, and somewhere along the way, drinking this cup became a ritual. No matter the season or mood, I can't leave without drinking that cup.

Tonight, as I walked over to clean up after our very first men’s group (walking to our office has been another life changing thing!), I found myself pouring a cup of their leftover coffee before heading out the door. It’s funny how something so simple can become a symbol of the community we’ve been so lucky to be part of.
