🚨 Back-to-School Safety Reminder 🚨

The first day of school is almost here! As Appomattox County Public Schools return on Thursday, August 6, we encourage everyone to use a little extra caution while traveling throughout our community.

You’ll begin seeing school buses back on their regular routes and students waiting at bus stops and crossing roadways. Whether you’re heading to work, running errands, or just out for a drive, please remember:

🚌 Stop for school buses when their stop arm is extended and red lights are flashing.
🚸 Slow down in school zones and areas where children may be present.
⚠️ Stay alert for students who may cross the road unexpectedly.
📵 Keep your eyes on the road and avoid distracted driving.

The safety of our children is a responsibility we all share. A little patience and awareness can help prevent a tragedy and ensure every child has a safe journey to and from school.

The Appomattox County Rescue Squad wishes all students, teachers, school staff, bus drivers, and families a wonderful first day and a successful school year. Thank you for doing your part to help keep Appomattox safe! 💙

🚨 Smoke Advisory 🚨

You may notice smoky or hazy conditions across our area today. This smoke is drifting into Virginia from the ongoing wildfires in Canada.

While the smoke is not from a local fire, it can reduce air quality and may affect those with asthma, COPD, heart disease, or other respiratory conditions.

We encourage everyone to:
• Limit prolonged outdoor activities if you notice difficulty breathing.
• Keep windows and doors closed when possible.
• Stay hydrated.
• Monitor children, older adults, and those with underlying health conditions.

Please stay informed and take the necessary precautions to protect your health.

🌡️ This past weekend brought extreme heat, but our members continued to answer the call without hesitation.

🚑 On behalf of the Appomattox County Volunteer Rescue Squad, we want to extend our sincere appreciation to every volunteer and career member who dedicated their time to serving our community. Despite the dangerous temperatures, our crews remained committed, responding to emergency calls with professionalism, compassion, and unwavering dedication.

🚑 Working in this kind of heat is physically demanding and carries additional risks, yet our members continued to put others first. We are incredibly grateful for your sacrifice, teamwork, and commitment to protecting the citizens and visitors of Appomattox County.

Thank you for everything you do. Stay safe, stay hydrated, and thank you for answering the call. 💙

💙💧 HELP US KEEP OUR FIRST RESPONDERS HYDRATED! 🚒🚑🚓🎧

As the summer heat continues, our first responders are spending long hours serving the citizens of Appomattox County. Whether they're battling fires, responding to medical emergencies, working crash scenes, patrolling our roads, or answering 911 calls, staying properly hydrated is essential to keeping them healthy and ready to serve.

We're asking our community to help us stock hydration supplies that will be distributed to our local firefighters, EMS personnel, Sheriff's Office deputies, and Emergency Communications (911 Dispatchers) throughout the summer.
