Makers Together

Makers Together We help artisans and makers learn the business side of creativity. Under our umbrella are Makers Together and Makers Together Artisan Fair.

Makers Together is a weekly video meeting covering topics such as social media presence, website planning, new trends in reaching customers and promotion planning for coming selling seasons. We also cover concerns members bring to each meeting and all members talk about the goals they set the week before and their goal for the coming week. Makers Together Artisan Fair is a virtual art show held as

a Facebook Group to allow makers to showcase their products and educate patrons on their processes while attendees can browse, comment and shop. Make new connections, and find that special something for your home, friend or family.

Maybe your creative work gets passionate when you’re hangry, but your admin probably gets sloppy. Take care of yourself or you won’t be very good at taking care of business.

We are so excited for this piece! Thank you Volume One and thank you to the author, Patricia Hawkinson of Decadent Gifts & Gallery, for sharing about our organization. We’re excited to be introduced to the Chippewa Valley, and we’re wishing you all a fantastic, creative weekend from the Fox Valley.

Makers Together, a nonprofit creative hub based in Appleton – with ties regionally to the Chippewa Valley – intends to uplift makers and artisans of all mediums and promote accessible education on starting a creative business. Members of the nonprofit host workshops, offer resources and guide one another through recurring virtual meetings.

On a monthly basis, Makers Together offers an in-person meet and greet open to its current members and the general public, co-founder Candi Teachman said. There, attendees have learned how to sign up for art shows, set up a tent and display, connect and talk about their art with the public, deal with unpredictable weather conditions and much more.

Finding people who truly get your creative life isn’t always easy.

That’s where our monthly in-person networking comes in. It’s open to the public, casual, fun, and full of makers who are excited to swap stories, share resources, and maybe even become collaborators or friends.

Think of it as coffee with people who actually understand why your studio looks like a tornado of inspiration.

Which do you prefer: casual chats or structured networking?

If you’re unable to (or just don’t) turn off pop-up notifications on your screen, and they’re getting in the way of your productivity, try turning off the internet access for an hour. As long as the programs you need have a “work offline” option, you should be able to continue with the file you need to finish without a couple dozen emails or messages dinging into your inbox.

Don’t forget to turn the internet access again afterward, though. :)

Have you seen the latest works from Michelle Jones Larson — artist, maker, owner of M’s Enchanted Glass, and member of Makers Together?

Michelle Jones Larson and her husband, Roger, have been married for 52 years, have raised three children and are blessed with three grandchildren. They currently reside near Oregon, Wisconsin.

While Michelle has enjoyed creating crafts of all kinds throughout her adult life, she didn’t truly embrace art and discover her passion until she was approaching retirement. Her love of antique and vintage glassware and vintage jewelry (really – anything that sparkles!), led her down the path of combining the two. And being environmentally minded, she creates her art by upcycling (enchanting!) thrift store / pre-loved frames, mirrors, antique plates, and old windows with beautiful jewelry (90% vintage) to create beautiful one-of-a-kind art pieces and occasionally custom family heirlooms.

Michelle states, “I’m not a ‘serious’ artist; don’t get me wrong, I’m serious about my art, but much of my art is more whimsical than serious. I love creating things that will make people smile or even laugh. I love coming up with clever and funny titles for my pieces.”

Deciding to scale up a creative business is an exciting next step, but it can definitely feel a bit overwhelming to navigate. Fortunately, Kathleen Laprise of SCORE joined us to break the big picture down into practical, manageable phases.

Their advice: building a business is just like building a house; it takes careful planning and a solid foundation to ensure long-term success.

Thank you so much, Kathleen, for providing us with the clarity and tools we need as we look ahead and decide where to take our work next.
