🎿 ALUMNI SPOTLIGHT | Tyler McKenzie ’10

From the start gate of the Milano Cortina 2026 Paralympic Winter Games to the halls of Proctor, Tyler McKenzie ’10 has learned to see the world through a wider lens.

A former Proctor alpine skier, Tyler returned to campus for Community Day this fall to share his journey with students. After a serious backcountry skiing accident in 2017 left him with a brachial plexus injury and years of intense nerve pain, Tyler found his way back to ski racing through para alpine competition. In 2025, he earned a full-time spot on the U.S. Ski Team and went on to race five events in Cortina.

Through it all, Tyler credits Proctor with helping him build resilience, embrace challenge, get outside, and keep moving forward.

“I credit Proctor with really helping me build my resiliency,” Tyler shared with students.

Today, he hopes to offer something beyond inspiration: a new way of seeing what people are capable of.

Annie MacKenzie, Drew Donaldson, and Patty Pond joined us, along with alums spanning the Class of '78 to the Class of '21. There's nothing like catching up under the lights with this crowd. 💚

⛵ 22 juniors and seniors just kicked off Proctor's 34th Ocean Classroom program, gathering in Woods Hole, MA with their families to meet the crew before boarding the SSV Corwith Cramer this fall.

Over the coming weeks, they'll study navigation, marine science, and maritime history while learning to run a ship together, the same kind of "immensely smaller and immensely larger" experience generations of Proctor sailors before them have known.
