October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month, and next week we’re continuing the conversation at the 2026 Employment First Conference!

This two-day conference brings together employers, employment support providers, workforce professionals, and individuals with disabilities to share resources and learn more about creating inclusive employment opportunities across Alaska.

Sunrise will be there with a booth highlighting our Supported Employment Program and the opportunities available for Risers, employees, and local businesses.

If you’re interested in supported employment, looking for meaningful work supporting Risers, or are a business interested in widening your talent pool and creating more inclusive employment opportunities, stop by and talk with our team!

October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month!

At Sunrise, we believe everyone deserves the opportunity to find meaningful work, develop new skills, and be a valued part of their community.

Through our Supported Employment Program, we help Risers with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) pursue employment opportunities with local businesses. With support from our dedicated DSPs, Risers are able to gain valuable work experience, build confidence, and work toward greater independence.

We’re grateful for the Anchorage businesses that have opened their doors to our Risers and recognize the value they bring to the workplace!

Meet one of our amazing Risers, Malcom! 👋🏼

Through Sunrise’s Supported Employment Program, Malcom works at Regal Cinemas with support from our team. He’s detail-oriented, hardworking and always willing to challenge himself to learn something new.

Supported Employment gives Risers like Malcom the opportunity to build job skills, confidence and greater independence while becoming valued members of the workforce. It also gives local businesses the opportunity to gain dedicated team members and make a meaningful difference in our community.

We’re grateful to Regal Cinemas for creating opportunities like this for individuals with IDD.

This month is an opportunity to celebrate people with Down syndrome, raise awareness, and continue building communities where everyone is included, supported, and given opportunities to thrive.

At Sunrise, we believe every person deserves to be known for who they are, encouraged in their goals, and supported in living a full and meaningful life.
