The Arc of Allegan County

The Arc of Allegan County We provide programming and employment, and advocate for people with developmental disabilities.

Creating a more knowledgeable and inclusive society is an ongoing endeavor of the Arc of Allegan County. The Arc has made its mark over the past six decades by:

-affecting mandatory special education laws
-creating more and better work opportunities and benefits for people with disabilities
-generating positive system changes through community collaboration
-improving the lives of individuals with disabilities by affecting local, state, and national ordinances, statutes, and legislation.

"Today, the Administration has aggressively rejected the rights of people with disabilities to live in the community. On June 18, 2026, the Office of Legal Counsel to the President issued a “slip opinion” disavowing decades of federal case law protecting the rights of individuals with disabilities to receive services in their homes and communities and to avoid unnecessary institutionalization..."

The rights of individuals with disabilities to be integrated in their communities are being attacked. Please contact your elected representatives to tell them to oppose this potentially devasting action.

A fundamental and unifying principal of disability rights and disability justice has been the right to live in the community—rather than to be involuntarily placed in institutions.  Today, the Administration has aggressively rejected the rights of people with disabilities to live in the community...
