A quick update for visitors to the Sanford Community Forest:

We know many of you have been looking forward to the arrival of an accessible portable restroom at the All Persons Nature Trail. Unfortunately, our vendor did not have enough accessible units available earlier this season, and we apologize for the delay.

The good news is that an accessible unit is scheduled for delivery this week. Thank you for your patience as we work to make the forest welcoming and accessible for everyone.

In the meantime, enjoy these photos of the flowering dogwood tree planted during our Arbor Day celebration. It is wonderful to see this native tree bloom and attract pollinators!

Good advice about turtles! Remember, if you are helping a turtle cross the road, move it in the direction it is already headed, and hold them gently by the shell and low to the ground, never by the tail.

It's Wild Turtle Week! Will you take the turtle pledge?

🐢 Keep wild turtles wild. Never take a turtle home from the wild.
🐢 If it's safe to do so, help turtles cross the road. Always move them in the direction they were going without relocating them to a new area. They know where they want to go!
🐢 Never release a pet turtle in the wild. This could negatively impact native species.
🐢 Learn about turtles and contribute observations to the Maine Amphibian and Reptile Atlas Project: mefishwildlife.com/atlas
🐢 Protect turtle habitat by cleaning up trash and leaving no trace.
🐢 Share this post to encourage others to take the pledge.

Interesting listen (or read)! Restoring the Mousam River.

The short river in York County is one of the most heavily-dammed waterways in Maine that doesn't have any fish passage.

We are looking forward to seeing you tomorrow for our 2026 annual meeting! Can't make it in person or still out of town? We have a Zoom option. Please register using the form, and we will send you the link: https://secure.lglforms.com/form_engine/s/6zPVagTsCIZRAxlAkH22aw

We will begin promptly at 2 pm in order to leave time for enjoying refreshments afterward. If you only know about honey bees, come prepared to be amazing by the variety of native bees that live in Maine and how we can create welcoming habitat for them.

GONE - I have takers for all of it. Thank you!

The land trust has some items to give away. About a dozen or more of the chairs - fairly good condition - and two, 2-drawer filing cabinets, one fire proof. Ideally we'd love them gone by Saturday morning, but please get in touch if you have any interest or know of another organization that might need them. Thank you!
