Founded in 2005 by Robin Breault Donarumo of Sanford, Maine, Santa’s Cause strives to make a difference in our community during the stressful holiday season. What started as a simple desire to make sure the children in York County Foster Care System had at least one gift to open on Christmas morning, has grown to the distribution of thousands of toys and gifts in a 10-week time period. Santa’s Cause provides age appropriate gifts, and holiday support to an ever-increasing number of needy families in our York County Maine communities. Requests come in from our pre-approved third-party referring individuals - counselors, teachers, social workers, child protective services, etc. Our first priority are the children in foster care. We work directly with the supervisors and caseworkers of DHHS in District 1 to make sure each child has a special day. Thanks to the support of our community and volunteers, we have never left a request for help unanswered. Imagine being the parent that has to tell your child that Santa isn't coming to their house this year! Can you picture your child’s wishful face peering through the window on Christmas morning in a desperate hope that maybe, just maybe, Santa is only running late. These are the visions that motivate us each year to be there to help these families during the stressful holiday season. To provide help to those in need, we reach out to businesses and private citizens in York and Cumberland County. Maine for donations of toys, clothing and gift card contributions. We take pride in the fact that EVERY dollar donated to Santa's Cause goes towards the cause. Our challenge is that because we are a "last resort" organization, we seldom know in advance to what extent our help will be needed. We always hear from families that have had a personal tragedy and need last minute help, or a foster child that has been taken in on an emergency basis at last minute. Most years we are making deliveries until late on Christmas Eve. "Santa’s Cause is so much more than providing toys to children at Christmas, although it did start out that way. It warms my heart to think that a child is smiling on Christmas morning because of our efforts and your support." Robin (The founder of Santa's Cause) has always desired to do so much more for families in need. “Many of the children that benefit from our efforts are in families who are considered to be 'the working poor.' Personally, I do not like the word “poor.” It doesn’t truly represent those struggling to make enough money to pay the bills and put food on the table. These people are loving, caring parents, just like us. They want so badly to do more for their children. As Santa's Cause enters it's 20th year, the team is as focused and dedicated as ever to help families make Christmas magic for their children and we are so grateful for the support given to us by this outstanding community! I would like to introduce to you - Miss Ferne O'Sullivan! This 10 year old little lady decided she wanted to make Christmas special for another girl her age! She used her very own money to purchase some pretty amazing gifts! I do like a smart shopper!
It always warms my heart when a young person reaches out to help- this is the answer to many of life's problems!! Teaching your child that they can make a difference in the lives of others. It is one of the most important lessons a parent can teach their children.
Ferne's Mom, Heidi, has been one of our generous and caring donors for so long I would have to look back over 10 years to find out when she joined us in our efforts! Obviously, Mom's kindness and big heart has impacted her lovely daughter!
Thank you Ferne! I have heard that the gifts you purchased for another girl your age were much loved!!

Good morning. I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas. I am still taking care of business believe it or not. This doesn't end for me on December 25th. All of my time and energy went into getting everything taken care of with the gifts I had, now I am setting up special deliveries from Santa's Elves, pick ups for late gifts, and planning an after Christmas private event for the kiddo's that have a few gifts that are coming in this week. They will have a blast with Santa- as he explains how his Head Elf, Elfis, forgot to load one special sack of toys on Santa's Sleigh. The kids will have a chance to received their wrapped gifts directly from him and do some crafts and have some snacks. The great thing about Christmas magic is that - even the little blips can be turned into fun!
On a personal note, I am beat and taking today to try to regain some energy and focus back. I am old now and don't bounce back as quickly as I used to!

I am still counting how many kids we helped as well as getting together some special announcements. Please keep an eye on this page for a final update.

Good morning.
I usually post a wrap up and pics from special events and special people right about now, but something pretty sad is happening in my world that will need all my attention for at least a few days.
My 14 year old cat Yuki has a very rare cancer - so rare that no animal is recorded to have had it - and its even rare in humans. He had a cancerous growth on his left eyelid. Luckily surgery was able to remove the complete mass and they felt that they had gotten it all. After surgery he went through 6 months of chemo. and only had his last treatment the day before Thanksgiving. He did amazingly and we are hopeful - but this cancer is one of the most aggressive known, Yesterday morning when I spent time with him before going to the shop, I noticed his other eye seems to have a mass in the corner. Devastated is not the word I can use to describe how I am feeling right now. So, this morning we go back to the Vet Center and have them take a look.
As soon as I have a grip on what is happening with him, I will gets some numbers. pictures and sincere thanks. I even have a special story I want to share.
I wish Santa could magically create a cure to eradicate cancer from this world.
Yuki is my best buddy and we have been through a lot together. If you pray, he could use a few right now. Thanks.

Well, it is indeed Christmas morning.
I have a few loose ends to tie up today. One being something pretty special - a deliver by Kailee and I a.k.a "Santa's Special Delivery Team' in the Old Orchard Area. He is 4 years old and we will be knocking on his front door around noon with a scheduled delivery ( a big delivery) straight from Santa! Imagine when he opens the door to 2 Elves (one of them very old and dragged through the mud
- but Merry none the less- and sees and envelope with a personalized letter straight from the big guy and a sack filled with your he has wished for!
We will be doing the same for a 19 year old that's till believes in Santa fella on Friday afternoon - the magic if Christmas and the innocent and hopeful eyes of children when they see us at their door is worth all the hard work.
Some of our families may be missing and item or 2 - they have not been delivered yet. Many things have come in late and I even got 3 calls yesterday that items were just now ready. I can do a lot of things, but I can't stop time. If your child is waiting on a gift or 2, please know that i did my best to get enough fun items to you that they would have some happy faces this morning. And if you have the imagination to make it magical when the other items come in - it can be a great surprise for the kiddo's to get a second gift to open!
Merry Christmas to all.

I finally get a full night sleep, I hope lol. A very special delivery to a little boy tomorrow and another special delivery to another child on Friday. And then it’s damage control and cleanup time. This year was a tough one. But at least I knowI give it 100% and I now have grown to accept that. Nothing goes smoothly or perfectly but it’s all OK in the end. People are happy. Good night all.

Kailee here once again. Mom is leaving the shop just now (!) after having people pick up at the shop and she's doing deliveries. Did I mention that she's very tired? ~Kailee

I am behind schedule! Big accident in Scarborough. If there is anybody that wants to come here at 5 o’clock and pick up that would be fine with me. Please get in touch with me so I don’t load it up in the car. I’m getting things ready now.I tried to take a few moments to reach out to everybody individually, but there’s just no time to find your phone numbers and call and all of that so I’m just gonna throw this right here errand we’ll figure it out.
