2026 Think Trees Conference Scholarship Application

Think Trees New Mexico recognizes the value of professional development in the urban and community forestry industry. For this reason, we are offering a scholarship program designed to encourage participation in the 2027 Think Trees Conference. Preference will be given to applicants affiliated with small municipalities, tribal entities and urban and community forestry organizations. This scholarship will cover the conference registration fee of $400. Recipients will be responsible for travel expenses for the conference if they choose to attend in person. The conference will be available via live stream for those attending virtually. The award cap is five registrations. The deadline for scholarship applications is December 1st, 2026.

Sustainable Practices for Tree Ecosystems: Trees are living beings and are home and resource for many other living beings. As arborists, we understand the crucial role trees play and we do what we can to support that function.
2-day conference, 2 lunches, and refreshments.
- $330.00 Registration (Early-Bird Registration thru January 8, 2027)
- $125.00 Students with valid I.D.
- $400.00 Registration (after January 8, 2027)
The coming Think Trees Conference will be held on February 11th - 12th, 2027 at the Embassy Suites by Hilton Albuquerque. The hotel is located just off I-25 at 1000 Woodward Place NE, Albuquerque, New Mexico 87102. (If booking a hotel room please ask for the specially reduced room rates available for the TTNM Conference.)

Somewhere up in the oak right now, a bug the size of your thumb is making a sound you can hear two streets over. Most people call it a locust. The name has been wrong for four hundred years.

When colonists first heard periodical cicadas emerge by the millions, they reached for the only word they had, the locust plagues of Scripture. But a locust is a grasshopper. It swarms, it travels, it eats fields down to stubble. The dog-day cicada does none of it.

The one screaming in your trees this week spent years underground drinking root sap, then climbed out for a few loud weeks in the sun. Adults barely eat. They cannot bite you and cannot sting you.

That sound is not a warning. It is a countdown clock, and it runs out in September. 🌳
